We had to leave before we could find my cat. She is small, brown/light brown mix. We live in whispering Lakes Ranch of League City, TX. I am very concerned of the surge of water, food, and lack of shelter in the area. Please e-mail me if you can help.
Thank you.
Emily, please call the Houston SPCA Hotline at 877-661-0161 or 713-861-0161. We will take a rescue report and dispatch someone as soon as it is safe. If you call tonight, just leave a message (we have call notes) and we'll take the report and get someone out as soon as the storm passes!
We had to leave our home, for the second time since getting our cat (the first time, during Rita's evacuation). Both then and this time, we made the decision to leave on a plane. We consider ourselves very lucky to not have suffered much damage to our home during Rita, when we left Boodles alone at home; but before leaving her, we left plenty of food and water on both floors of our home. When we returned, she was all right, although when we first arrived she was a little reluctant to come out and greet us.
This time, we planned on doing the same thing, but I had more misgivings about doing so. We left two plates of canned food on both floors of our home, two bowls of water, a litter pan on BOTH floors of our house, and we have plenty of furniture on both floors for her to hide under. I just pray for the safety of our house, and, of course, for Boodles safety!! I wish there were a way to evacuate just my pet in the case of these severe storms. The shelters that take pets are for the pets WITH their owners, aren't they? Is there a way to evacuate just your pet?
while watching khou tv station in Houston, I saw a live report of a yellow lab like dog that was chained to a picnic bench and the bench was in water. This poor dog has gone through such horror and yet the reporter didn't say if he was going to save it or not. I'm not blaming him for the dog's heartless care but couldn't he have freed it at least. I haven't heard of any follow-up. Would he have left a child chained to a picnic table? PLEASE help this dog. thank you.Paulette
paulette, i also saw that report and e-mailed the tv station and talked to the spca. they assured me that they are aware of the situation, i later heard the reporter say that he had alerted the proper authorities to rescue the dog. i like you was so hurt to see that there was no effort being made to help the dog and would love to know for sure that the dog was indeed rescued. a fellow animal lover, MamaJan
MamaJan, Thank you so much for that information. So good to know of other animal lovers and those who can't forget these poor animals eyes. I will also call spca tomorrow to follow up when they reopen, because I am in Oregon. With sincere thanks- Paulette
Has anyone heard if the SPCA or any other animal rescue organization needs volunteers for Ike. I would love to volunteer but do not know who to contact about this.
