Study: Sperm whales doing OK in Gulf

HOUSTON--According to the federal government, the sperm whales in the Gulf are doing OK.

The Minerals Management Service released the results of a six-year study Thursday.

They wanted to find out if offshore drilling was hurting the whales, which are an endangered species.

Researchers estimate the sperm whale population in the Gulf is 140.

The study found the Gulf whales are a distinct variety and don't like to leave home.

It also found all the seismic activity from drilling did not bother them.
