Wildlife Rehab and Education reports that baby wild animals face potential danger in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Edouard.

Baby Squirrel for blog.jpg

The Houston area and surrounding counties are still in the middle of a very active baby bird and squirrel season. The storm made landfall this morning around 7:10. If the storm brings the heavy rain and wind that's expected, many baby birds and squirrels could possibly be blown from their nests and orphaned.

The WR&E Wildlife Care Center is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will take any native injured and orphaned wildlife you may find after the storm. The WR&E Center is located at 7007 Katy Road, near the Houston SPCA. Their phone number is 713-861-9453.

If you find an injured or orphaned wild animal after hours, put it in a box with soft rags, keep it as warm as possible, and put in a quiet, safe dark place. Do not attempt to give the animal any food or water and bring it the WR&E Wildlife Care Center the next morning.

Thank you WR&E Wildlife Center for helping wildlife in need. I hope that the babies weren't drastically affected by the storm. But it's good to know there is someone there to help them! Thanks to all the volunteers that help with the wildlife too!
