Best Friends Animal Society and Last Chance for Animals unveiled plans to work together to end puppy store sales in the Los Angeles area, an effort the groups hope will provide a blueprint for the rest of California and the nation.
To make their vision for a "Puppy-Store-Free L.A." a reality, the two groups said they will work with lawmakers to tighten existing regulations and create new ordinances pertaining to the sale of dogs. The groups also plan to boost public awareness on the issue. Tony Cardenas, L.A. city councilman, is one such lawmaker who spoke at the press conference. He told an estimated 50 people in attendance that animals are the community's responsibility and he wants to see the city become a model when it comes to the care of dogs. Cardenas discussed how the city recently enacted a mandatory spay/neuter law, and said the ban of "puppy mills" is next on his agenda. This is fantastic, don't give up, but must do more to make the public more aware that pet stores are just fronts for puppy mills and USDA equals puppy mill and when these pet stores say their puppies come from local breeders that could be one of the 300 plus puppy mills in Palmdale, Kern and Lancaster county. Don't be fooled these pet stores are really good at lying, just look at the ads in Kiiji, one fake ad is Hi Puppies in Korea town-disgusting she lies and says they breed once a year, they come from World Kennel USA the mill that was busted in May, enough everyone, it's animal abuse!
