LAST CALL FOR NERO!!! We profiled him last week..no takers. We thought we would try one more time!!! Nero is a male black lab mix, A885597....he's got a white splotch on his chest and a tiny white dog on his head. Other than that, he looks like a black labbie through and through. Nero is only 9 months old and has been cooped up at the shelter for too long! He came in wearing a fancy collar, but has never been claimed. Too many nice black dogs get overlooked at the shelter because they look so similar. We hope you will take a special look at Nero today! He's been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and is heartworm negative. His 90 days are past due...we are giving this one more shot!! Please email Kathy if you can help Nero at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

About 5 months ago, a litter of seven beautiful pups was dumped at BARC. They were only 5 weeks old at the time, and scheduled to be euthanized. Luckily for them, a kind foster stepped in and today they are some of the most beautiful pups you will ever see! Only problem...they are not little bitty pups and more, they are currently 6 months old and eating the foster mom out of the house! There are STILL four puppies remaining out of the original litter of seven and they are READY for their forever homes! Our best guess is that they are part Lab, German Shepherd and/or Aussie mix pups. These are truly the sweetest, most loving, most laid back pups you will ever meet. There are two boys -- one a chocolate with a white chest and amber eyes "Rufus" (not pictured) and one a golden color with green eyes "Sawyer" -- and two girls -- one golden with a beautiful dark mask and amber eyes "Goldie", and one (the runt) a beautiful gold and chocolate mix with amber eyes "Princess". Fully grown, they should be anywhere between 45-60 lbs. They are spayed/neutered, have had all their shots (including rabies), and are microchipped. For more information about adopting one of these 4 gorgeous pups, email Connie at wilhite_ck@msn. com.

There are also 3 pups left from a litter of 3 month old lab/shepherd mixes. The first picture is Lila - (Female) - I am a beauty, but don't know it!! I have the caramel colored mask with a very soft face and I'm always ready to get out and lick your toes and hang out with you!! Second is Saint - (Female) - I have a white chest and look like a Saint Bernard in the face (or at least that is what they tell me!) :} The 3rd picture is Feisty - (Female) - I bet you can guess who I am too! I am very energetic and can't wait for the next toy to play with!!! But, I also love to just lay in your lap too! For more information on adopting one of these pups, email Judy at jjsjewels@sbcglobal.net.

Meet Buster! You are going to love this boy. Look at that smiling face!! Buster is a terrier mix and he is super smart (as are all terriers.) He is 1 1/5 years old, 45 pounds, neutered, healthy, HW neg, current on all vaccinations and micro chipped. He is house and crate trained. He is a little lover and calm in the house. He is full of energy and loves to run and play. He would make a great companion for someone. He is always smiling just look at that face. How can you resist?? So, if interested, please contact his foster mom Carla at 713-444-3012 or cbennett7744@comcast.net.

Meet Mayple and "the gang." Mayple and her 8 puppies were dropped off at BARC over a week ago, but...lucky for Mayple....they were scooped up by a foster home, and with a little teamwork, made it out of BARC and are doing great. The puppies are currently 6 weeks old and ready to be weaned from momma and go to new foster-to-adopt homes. Momma Mayple is a terrier mix, about 15 lbs. and very sweet. She gets along well with other dogs and seems to be housetrained. The puppies are terrier/poodle mixes (we know that daddy was a poodle!) so they are all very fluffy and soft. Some of the pups are white with black or brown spots around the eyes and others are solid brown. If you are interested in adopting Mayple, the sweet momma, email Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. For an application to adopt one of the puppies, please email Julie at juliekeeton5@aol.com. (Also, email Kathy for more individual pictures of the puppies.)

You may have read her story before....but please consider Peppermint Patty! She has a special story to tell. About 3 months ago her foster mom was doing her regular volunteer time, feeling especially happy she had helped a very nice adopt er select a puppy to adopt. It was the last of Patty's litter...a gorgeous fluffy black and white pup. When she went into the cage to get the last pup out, Patty made her move. She did not growl...as many momma dogs might do. She did not cower toward the back of the cage either. Instead, she gave her best, most soulful look, gazed up at the volunteer, and gently rubbed her head against her leg. I guess that did the trick, because, her new foster mom decided this sweet girl DESERVED a second chance and boy has she proven that statement right! Of course, at the time she was very emaciated and had a bad case of heartworms. Almost 3 months later...she is a gorgeous girl, with plenty of meat on her bones and she has now finished her heartworm treatment. As payment to her foster mom, she has been the most excellent houseguest. She LOVES to play with the kids in the house and they love her. She gets along great with the other dogs in the house, big and small, is quiet in her crate and is learning to sit and other commands with ease. She's not a big barker and she has never dug up anything or tried to get out of the backyard. Patty is about 45 lbs full grown. Email Kathy about adopting Patty, at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

Email the contact of each photo to determine their location (some of these animals are in foster care and some are at the shelter). BARC is located at:
