BARC STARZ Loyal Readers!! Happy Independence Day to you! We are very proud, not only to live in this great country, but to be a part of this great Houston community...a community that has come through for us once again!
Thank you for coming to the aid of Benji, Felix, Oliver & Fern from last week's email! We are happy to report that Benji and Oliver were adopted, Felix is in a wonderful foster home and due to the generosity of several donors, Fern was rescued from the shelter and will begin her heartworm treatment next week. You came through for us once again! Thank you! We wish we did not have to say it, but we have 2 more "Last Chance" dogs that need your help this week. These dogs are on their last week at the shelter, as they can only be held for 90 days. Please consider adopting or fostering one of these wonderful dogs! Our 1st 90-day dog of the week is Marlene, A884824. Marlene is a lab/hound dog of some sort, about 55 pounds full grown and heartworm negative. She's not only a real beauty, she's very sweet to boot! Marlene gets along well with other dogs and is very playful. She's about 2 years old and came to the shelter already spayed...so she was someone's doggie they just never found. Marlene desperately wants a new home of her own. She needs a new foster or adoptive home by this Sunday, July 6th. Can anyone help her?? Please contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net for more information. Our 2nd 90 day dog is Nero, A885597. Nero is a male black lab mix....he's got a white splotch on his chest and a tiny white dog on his head. Other than that, he looks like a black labbie through and through. Nero is only 9 months old and has been cooped up at the shelter for too long! He came in wearing a fancy collar, but has never been claimed. Too many nice black dogs get overlooked at the shelter because they look so similar. We hope you will take a special look at Nero today! He's been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and is heartworm negative. This is his last week at BARC. Please email Kathy if you can help Nero at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. One of our volunteers found "Carter" (now June Carter!) wandering on Memorial Drive 2 weekends ago and she was subsequently sent home with an employee of a pet store. Unfortunately the placement didn't work out and Carter ended up at BARC anyway. She is already spayed, now has her shots and is microchipped, but is also low level heartworm positive. She gets along with all other dogs and is calm and quiet, and would make someone a great companion! She'll be at the Meet & Greet in the Heights this Saturday if you would like to come meet her. She's looking forward to meeting you!! Email Mike for more information about Ms. Carter at mikek@iapc.net. Its 4th of July....red, white & blue...what's more all-American that the Labrador Retriever! This fourth, help save Buddy, A888438, your all-American yellow lab. Buddy is about 3 years old and just the right age to begin his lab-couch sitting days. Instead, he's stuck at BARC. This boy is very sweet and ready to be sprung! He has a slight case of heartworms but we can give you all the info to have this cleared up at a very low cost. Please help by adopting this beautiful boy! Contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net if you can help. We know you are going to LOVE Miss Shorty! Shorty is.....ready for this.... A pit bull/bassett hound mix as best we can tell. She's only about 25 lbs. and already 6 months old. She has those adorable short legs and she should not get a whole lot bigger. She's still very sweet and playful and gets along with other dogs well. Shorty has been spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. She's just too cute...you have to meet her and see! Contact Julie for more info at juliekeeton5@ aol.com. We can't believe these two darling yellow lab puppies have not been adopted yet! They've been at BARC almost 2 weeks and are just the most precious things! They still need to be spayed but can be adopted through BARC's "foster to adopt" program. They are both females, about 2 months old, and have been vaccinated and dewormed. Adoption fee will include spay surgery and microchipping. Come get us today!!!! Email Kathy for more information, kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. We don't know exactly what the breed is of this unusually beautiful dog is...but we just had to include her photo so you could see! BARC ID is A892135. She is about 2 years old, 50+ lbs and has the most gorgeous long brindle coat. She's also very sweet...look at those sad eyes! We hope you will come take a look at her in person and see what we mean! MEET CESAR! Cesar is a Golden Retriever/ Terrier mix about a two years old and 55 lbs. He is very laid back but likes to play too, extremely sweet, loving, loves people, and is very smart dog. He just wants to be around his human. He gets along well with both make and female dogs. He is great on a leash and is learning basic commands. He is crate trained but doesn't need to be in a crate. He is great in the house unattended. He is also housebroken. He is current on all his vaccinations, neutered and HW negative. If you can find it in your heart to adopt Cesar he would love to be your buddy. I think he would be great with kids based on his sweet, laid back personality. He likes his toys and plays well with my dogs. Doesn't seem to mind cats but don't know for sure. He sure likes to chase squirrels. f interested, Please contact Carla at 713-444-3012. It's no shocker why her name is Beauty... This gorgeous girl is not only beautiful she's very smart dog and a fast learner. She is totally housebroken. Beauty would make a wonderful "best friend" and companion. All she wants is love and attention and she will never leave your side. Her foster mom has a lready taught her "sit", "down", "get in your bed". She is still working on "wait", "back" and "move" but she'll have them down in no time! She works great on leash and likes to go on walks. She would love to be in a house with a family and another dog that is about her size to play with. For more information, contact Carla at 713-444-3012 or email kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net . Email the contact of each photo to determine their location (some of these animals are in foster care and some are at the shelter).
