Chelsey's story is both dramatic and horrific. At first glance Chelsey looks like any other Cocker puppy, doesn't she? Cute and adorable. But take a closer look at her right ear and read on!
Late Monday, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas-Houston learned about a male cocker at a shelter suffering from a serious bilateral ear infection. He was "unadoptable" and would be euthanized if CSR did not take him. A CSR volunteer, Deb, went by to pick him up Tuesday morning. Deb determined the young male was actually a five to six month old female and promptly named her "Chelsey." Deb, an experienced volunteer, was prepared for the odor from the ear infections but this was extraordinarily bad. What Deb wasn't prepared for was the condition of the right ear flap. It was almost as though the ear flap had been sliced. The skin was literally rotten. Deb reports, "She is so beautiful, so good, so loving, so precious, never bit or tried to bite, never yelped, screamed, nothing thru all this!!.. She just gave me lots of kisses." The ear flap fell off on the way to the vet. Chelsey was immediately seen. The ear flap cannot be reattached. Right now the vet is working to clear up the infection by giving IV antibiotics. CSR has no idea how this injury occurred or when. What CSR finds unfathomable is that Chelsea received no treatment for the five days she was in a shelter. Their hearts went out to this little girl. They pulled her knowing full well it was going to be an expensive proposition to heal her. They are asking for prayers for Chelsey. Additional information will be posted as her story develops. Additional Chelsey photos. Please be advised these images are graphic and some people may find them disturbing. Chelsey certainly has my prayers for her recover and forever home!
OMG! How could that have been left untreated! That is absolutely unbelievable, horrible, and unexcusable!
Thanks to CSR for taking her and helping her! She is such a beautiful girl! And how wonderful that she's still a lover even after all she's been through! Godspeed on your recovery precious Chelsey!
I'd like to know what shelter kept her in this condition. I would like to write them a letter and let them know how deplorable I think their actions are.
I would also like to know which shelter she was at while she suffered from this condition. There is no excuse for this!
I hope she finds someone to treat her as the special girl she is.
