From the BARC STARZ Team,

Some of you may know we try to highlight one or two dogs a week that are at the end of their stay. Dogs can only be held for 90 days due to space reasons. We are excited to report that Grace, from last week's email, found a wonderful new home!! Please scroll down to see pictures of Grace in her happy new house. However, we are still looking for a forever home for Felix and a few others. Read on for more information!

Last call for Felix (A884454)!!! Felix has been at the shelter since March and this is his last week. As you can tell from the picture, Felix LOVES the water! If you are looking for a water dog, here's your boy! He is great with other dogs and loves people. We've had a lot of questions regarding his breed...and its hard to know. He may have some terrier in him, but he's about 45 lbs and 8 months old, so he's not rat terrier size but he's not huge and should not get any bigger. He's been neutered, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Felix has a lot of fun to be around and does not meet a stranger. If you can help save Felix, contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

We also profiled Benji a couple weeks ago, (A884771) and now Benji is also at the end of his 90 days. We just love this sweet boy and can't understand why he has not been picked!! BARC Volunteer Elizabeth says, "I took Benji to the Friends of BARC monthly Meet N Greet and fell in love instantly! This little guy loves to ride in the car and sat quietly looking out the window the whole way. He enjoys getting hugs and kisses and let me flip him over in my lap for belly rubs. Back at BARC he has fun running and playing with the other dogs and splashing in the little swimming pool. Benji is a real gem who is much too wonderful to be stuck in the dog pound. He would be a great addition to any family and a fun companion for another dog. He's been neutered, is approximately 6 months old and 35-40 lbs. For more info, contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com.

One last chance for Rosie, (A885260)!!! Rosie is a brindle pitt bull mix about 5 months old and heartworm negative. Elizabeth says, "Rosie is my little brindle love bug. Poor girl is spending her whole puppy life at BARC when she should be out playing and enjoying her childhood. She came to BARC as a stray, frightened and confused, like so many, but she has attached to me and is very eager and affectionate with me. She loves to kiss me and nibble my ears! She's really looking for a person who will play with her and show her affection. For some reason Rosie is very aggressive with dogs her size or smaller but is fine with big dogs. I would not recommend Rosie with cats, and if a prospective adopter has a dog I would bring that dog to BARC and see how Rosie gets along with it." For more information, contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com.

Final plea for Curly!!!!! (A885616)! We thought we would try one more time.....Curly is coming up on his 90 days at this point. This is a very smart dog who learns so quickly. Curly is about 2 years old and looks like a smaller sized flat-coated retriever. He has a gorgeous long black coat with hints of brown. He is a bit of a jumper and will need a secure fenced yard. He also is a little particular with other dogs, so if you have dogs, we should set up a meeting first to make sure they get along. However, Curly is so sensitive and loving with humans we know he'd be a great companion or family pet. We think he also is housebroken due to his behavior at the shelter. He is low-positive for heartworms, but that can easily be treated. Contact Elizabeth for more info at evitek@yahoo.com.

You may have read her story before....but please consider Peppermint Patty! She has a special story to tell. About 3 months ago her foster mom was doing her regular volunteer time, feeling especially happy she had helped a very nice adopter select a puppy to adopt. It was the last of Patty's litter...a gorgeous fluffy black and white pup. When she went into the cage to get the last pup out, Patty made her move. She did not growl...as many momma dogs might do. She did not cower toward the back of the cage either. Instead, she gave her best, most soulful look, gazed up at the volunteer, and gently rubbed her head against her leg. I guess that did the trick, because, her new foster mom decided this sweet girl DESERVED a second chance and boy has she proven that statement right! Of course, at the time she was very emaciated and had a bad case of heartworms. Almost 3 months later...she is a gorgeous girl, with plenty of meat on her bones and she has now finished her heartworm treatment. As payment to her foster mom, she has been the most excellent houseguest. She housetrained herself in 2 days. She LOVES to play with the kids in the house and they love her. She gets along great with the other dogs in the house, big and small, is quiet in her crate and is learning to sit and other commands with ease. She's not a big barker and she has never dug up anything or tried to get out of the backyard. Patty is about 40 lbs full grown. Email Kathy about adopting Patty, at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

Please take a look at Mia. She is a beautiful Pit Terrier mix. She is house trained already and a very smart, sweet dog. She needs a loving home. She needs to be in a home that doesn't have any other pets. It you know anyone who is interested, please contact Mia's foster mom, at beccamiller76@yahoo.com

Poor Fern (A890979) is looking for a real hero. This little girl is new to BARC but she is absolutely terrified of the place. She sits on the floor of her big kennel constantly shivering in fear. To make matters worse Fern is heartworm positive and needs both someone to sponsor her heartworm treatment and foster her during treatment. Fern is barely 15 pounds, full grown and most likely a Dachshund mix. She's a little lap dog looking for a lap to snuggle in. Please email evitek@yahoo.com if you can help Fern have the Happy Ever After she deserves.

People always come to BARC asking for small dogs but for some reason no one has noticed Shorty (A888846). Maybe people think he's still a puppy? Shorty is a year old but this is as big as he'll get (which is in the neighborhood of 15-20 pounds). He's energetic but also a good cuddle bug, and fine with dogs of all ages and sizes. Shorty gets really happy when he sees people. He's heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and ready to go! Email evitek@yahoo.com for more information.

Meet Oliver!! (A891756) This beautiful boy is a collie mix, about a year old. He's gentle, sweet and loves people. Need a real-life teddy bear?? Here's your boy! Email Nancy for more information at njrose@juno.com.

Finally, we close with some very happy news! Here is Miss Grace, profiled last week, in her new happy home! Her new mom says, "I wanted to share with you a few photos of Grace taken Saturday after we got her home. She gets along so well with our lab Molly. They played all weekend and both could not be happier. In the first photo she had just gotten out of the pool. The other is of Grace and Molly....they are never more than a couple feet apart from each other. Thank you so much for taking an interest in Grace, she is just the sweetest dog and we are so glad to have her in our home." So...please forward to all your friends...you never know when a love match will be made!

Thanks for reading and supporting our BARC STARZ once again this week!
