Dear BARC STARZ readers, Thanks for "tuning in" again this week! If you are new to this blog, this is a weekly posting of some of the great dogs and cats available at BARC, the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care in Houston. Never heard of BARC...well, allow us to introduce you! BARC is the animal control facility for the City of Houston, and there are so many wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption there every day. If you are a loyal reader....well, thank you!!! You may notice a few familiar faces this week...we did want to remind you of a few dogs that are still available and introduce you to a few new cuties. So, enough with the small talk...lets get going!!
LAST CHANCE FOR LINDY!!! You may remember this sweet little one-eyed girl from a couple weeks ago. Lindy is a wonderful little house dog who loves humans and other dogs. Just one problem....she does not like her foster mom's cats, so she has to be moved ASAP. We must find a new foster or adopter for her by Saturday afternoon or she will be going back to the shelter, where her fate is uncertain.... Can anyone help her? Lindy is only about 20 lbs. (she is smaller than she looks in this picture) and we think she's a cairn terrier mix. To help this little girl, contact Julie at juliekeeton5@aol.com. Okay, we are showing you this girl again.... but we are sure there must have been some mistake. How could you have missed her?? This is Angel, (A883945), a 2 year old beagle mix who is great with people and other dogs. She would be a great family dog and we think she is housetrained! Angel is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and spayed. Sadly, her 90 days at BARC are almost up!! Please help Angel NOW! Contact kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net or call Carla at (713) 444-3012 for more information. Meet Peaches! A887272. Friends of BARC volunteer Jason fell in love with Ms Peaches after taking her to a Petsmart for adoption last weekend. He says, "Peaches is a very pretty eight month old girl who is just a little nervous and confused. She is pretty quiet, except in the play yard, and likes to give kisses. She is good with kids and seems to be good with other dogs. She did not seem to understand what the cats were that were in the cage at PetSmart, so she did not express any aggression towards them. She was very quiet and did not bark or whine when I took her to PetSmart. In fact, she didn't bark the entire time she was with me. She is a Chow mix with eyes that are full of emotion. She will probably need to have some TLC for a little while until she gets over her confusion. She needs a little work walking on a leash, but she is getting there. Peaches is truly a special little girl. For more information, contact Jason at jleavitt@linbeck.com or (281) 686-5562. BARC Doggy Momma Elizabeth selected Rosie, A885260, as her BARC STAR this week. Rosie is a brindle pitt bull mix about 5 months old and heartworm negative. Elizabeth says, "Rosie is my little brindle love bug. Poor girl is spending her whole puppy life at BARC when she should be out playing and enjoying her childhood. She came to BARC as a stray, frightened and confused, like so many, but she has attached to me and is very eager and affectionate with me. She loves to kiss me and nibble my ears! She's really looking for a person who will play with her and show her affection. For some reason Rosie is very aggressive with dogs her size or smaller but is fine with big dogs. I would not recommend Rosie with cats, and if a prospective adopter has a dog I would bring that dog to BARC and see how Rosie gets along with it." For more information, contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com. Meet handsome Curly (A885616)! Curly is one of those dogs that has it all...good looks and intelligence!! We have been so impressed with what a quick learner he is! Curly is about 2 years old and looks like a smaller sized flat-coated retriever. He has a gorgeous long black coat with hints of brown. He is a bit of a jumper and will need a secure fenced yard. He also is a little particular with other dogs, so if you have dogs, we should set up a meeting first to make sure they get along. However, Curly is so sensitive and loving with humans we know he'd be a great companion or family pet. We think he also is housebroken due to his behavior at the shelter. He is low-positive for heartworms, but that can easily be treated. Contact Elizabeth for more info at evitek@yahoo.com. We have 3 darling foster puppies currently ready for adoption! Meet Mason (the brown male), Miggy (the black and white male) and Miley (the black female). These 3 pups are very playful and independent, not nippy or bitey, and love to play together with toys. Currently they're about 9 weeks old. Probably won't be more than about 25lbs full grown. We think they are cocker spaniel mixes. They are crate trained and will be having surgery this Friday 6/6 to be spayed and will be ready for adoption. To be the first to apply, contact Fran at foyle67@hotmail.com. Meet lovebug Freckles, A887563. As you can see she loves to roll around in the grass! Freckles was adopted a week ago but sadly, her new mom is very allergic to her so she had to be returned to the shelter. Her owner was heartbroken to leave her and wants you all to know she is an excellent dog! She's not a barker, only barks if someone comes to the house at night; gentle; walks well on a leash; excellent with kids; very lovable - likes to be touched (loves to sit on your feet and lean against you); good with other dogs. She also was progressing very well with her housetraining and is a quick learner! There's just nothing bad to say about this girl. For more information, contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. This is cutie-pie is CALLIE ID#A886870. Callie is a spayed female, tan and white Fox Terrier mix. She's only about 30 lbs tops and this picture does not do her justice! She is just the cutest little girl. She'd make a great family pet and would love to give you kisses and wiggle her tail at your arrival! Callie is still at BARC....please come meet her! For more info, contact Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. Meet Sky! (A890021) Sky is a Siberian Husky with the most gorgeous blue eyes ever. She's only a year old and very sweet with both humans and other dogs. Sadly, Sky has a case of heartworms so we need to find a foster or adopter for her ASAP! The treatment costs $175 and we also would love donations towards that. The most important thing, however, at this point is to find a foster home for her because she cannot be treated at the shelter. Please email us ASAP if you can help save this beautiful dog! We don't have a lot of time...the shelter is very full so please email us if you can help at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net. Finally....cat lovers we have a BIG Announcement! BARC is offering 2 for 1 adoptions on cats and kittens for the month of June. Lots of beauties...like this gorgeous calico...are available NOW! Please spread the word that BARC is THE PLACE to come for a new cat this month!! Email the contact of each photo to determine their location (some of these animals are in foster care and some are at the shelter). BARC is located at: BARC (Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care) Rescue welcome! 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
As always, my hope and prayers that these and other precious angels are adopted into their loving forever homes! Extra special prayers for those at the end of their time at BARC.
If you rescue an animal, you'll find that second chance kisses are the best!
