The BARC STARZ Team highlights some special dogs that have captured their hearts at the Houston City Shelter (BARC) this week. We hope they will capture yours as well and you'll feel compelled to help and/or pass our link to others!

Here's Elsie, A884245! She is a gorgeous collie mix about 3 years old. Elsie is very sweet, gentle and good with other dogs. We think she must have lived in a house before and appears to be housetrained. She has the most gorgeous coat and a very calm demeanor. She's been at BARC almost a month...can you take her home? Contact Elizabeth for more info about Elsie at evitek@yahoo.com.

Meet Emily! Emily, ID A885919, is a 3 month-old pup who survived a whole month at the shelter, a feat not for the weakest of pups! But, Emily is a little thin and could use some love and TLC before she is spayed and ready to go. She's the last pup left of her litter and we can't understand how she has not been picked...just look at that face! Emily has had 2 rounds of shots and is healthy besides needing some extra puppy chow. Can you help show her some extra love! Email Elizabeth for more information about Emily, at evitek@yahoo.com.

At the moment, BARC also seems to have quite a few beautiful German Shepherds! This boy, A886156, has been in for about 2 weeks and we all are impressed with how sweet and well behaved he is. There also is a female and 2 other males (not pictured). So...if you've always wanted a German Shepherd or know anyone who does, please send them our way! This boy is heartworm negative and has been vaccinated.

We hate showing him through the "bars", but we were on our way out and Grayson just commanded our attention! ID A883684. He is probably a german shepherd/lab mix of some sort, only a year old and such a good boy! He's one of those sweet, soulful dogs that sits at the front of his cage waiting patiently for his owner. What more could you want? He's heartworm negative, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Our 90-day dog of the week, who needs your help NOW, is Lorenzo, A880210! As you may know, dogs can only stay in the adoption program for 90 days and Lorenzo is at that mark. Like Emily above, his siblings have all been adopted but poor Lorenzo is still waiting. He's only 4 months old and full of energy. He'd love a yard of his own to run and play in. He loves other dogs and people! We are guessing he is a lab mix but take a look at those ears?? Perhaps he's part rabbit? Either way, he's a lovebug and will make a great family dog or best friend/running buddy. His 90 days are up this week. Can anyone help by fostering or adopting this boy? He's fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. (P.S. Thanks to your help, Dexter, our 90 day dog from last week-has been adopted! Thanks to everyone who offered to help him!!

And here's Miss Maggie! A881443 Maggie was found in good condition about 2 months ago, wearing a collar but no tags and sadly her owner has not come forward. She's a pointer mix, about 1 year old, and heartworm negative. She's a beautiful strong dog who would love some attention and a belly rub. That's not too much to ask, right?

Take a look at Powder, A881529, a snow white lab mix! Powder came into BARC in late February with his brother Pete (who has been adopted). They were both very emaciated and scared. However, he's gotten lots of love and some good food and now he looks and feels great! This boy is so sweet and very smart...he will respond very well to some training and love. He's about 7 months old, has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He's been waiting 2 long months at the shelter for his new home.

You might be wondering, does BARC have puppies? YES, YES, YES! Here are 5 adorable pups turned in yesterday by their "owner"...there are lots of others as well! These pups are about 3 months old and you can take one home today through our foster to adopt program. You would need to bring the puppy back for a 2nd set of vaccines and then for surgery to be spayed/neutered. Look at those faces, how can you resist?

All of this week's BARC STARZ Dogs are located at the shelter. To meet them, please come out to:

3200 Carr St.

I am praying for the same as what Melody said! These are all beautiful furbabies who deserve wonderful families and lives filled with love! We can do it again Houston - as you have helped so many "last chance Starz" in the past! I have faith that all of these sweet souls will be saved!!
