Pet Loss Support Program helps owners cope with the loss of a pet.
To share your life with a companion animal is to truly experience unconditional love and the end of that relationship can be devastating and one of the most difficult times in a person's life. In fact, psychologists recognize that the grief suffered by pet owners after the loss of a beloved pet is the same as that experienced after the loss of a person. The Pet Loss Support Group meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. The next group session will be Tuesday, June 3rd at the Houston SPCA in the conference room, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX 77024. I am so glad that this is being recognized as a true need. It is devestating to lose a pet. They are our friends and our family. It's good that people can go where others understand what they are going through and experiencing. A place where there is a common goal and you don't have to worry about someone rolling their eyes at you because you are talking about a pet that is deceased. Some people don't understand that the loss of a pet is just as devestating to their person and that a pet is not "just an animal". Thanks SPCA for having a place where people can go and heal with others who understand and care.
