New York has become the first state in the nation to ban the electrocution of animals in a particularly gruesome way to harvest their fur. The law bans the practice of anal and genital electrocution of fur-bearing animals, including mink, foxes, chinchillas and rabbits. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail. New York's ban was signed in March, one of the final acts of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer before he resigned. The law took effect immediately upon passage, and no one has yet been charged with violating it. Click here to read the complete story. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |
OMG! I didn't know that they used electrocution on the animals! Thank God they banned it! I have not and will not ever own a fur! I don't even buy fake fur products because of the use of raccoon dogs, etc. It infuriates me to no end to see furs in Southeast Texas. It doesn't get cold enough here in the first place! There are much better ways to show off your wealth! Diamonds aren't alive, so they aren't killed to be able to make a ring. (Sorry! Soapbox. Oh & I absolutely do not agree with those people who ruin a fur coat to protest their not liking people having them! The poor animal has already lost it's life, so it makes no sense to ruin the fur to be of no use! Protest in other ways!) YEA for Gov. Spitzer for signing this into law! I hope others follow suit...SOON! This is horrendous! NO FUR! Let the little creatures keep their coats, they need them more than we do!
OMG OMG OMG!!!! Here's praying that all states ban this horrendous and inhumane way to kill living creatures! Better yet - dont buy fur - and then there wont be a need to kill any living creature for their fur!! Inhumane killing is still killing!!!!!!!!!!!!
