From the BARC STARZ TEAM:

We want to say "thank you!" to all of you for the great response these last 2 weeks. Thanks to you, Claude, Dexter, Sasha, Audrey, Tom, Emily, Lorenzo, Powder, Elsie, and Hope are all sleeping comfortably in new homes as we speak, WOW! Also, Bailey is in foster care and Candy was pulled by a rescue group. We are so excited by the response and hope to keep the good times rolling!

And now, our STARZ of the week are ready to make their debut...

Our 90 day dog of the week is Sierra, A881517. She is a German Shepherd mix, but on the small side. She's already 8 months old and probably only 40 lbs. tops, so we don't expect her to get much bigger. Sierra has a lot of energy from spending her formative puppy years at the shelter but she's very sweet with humans and playful with other dogs. She does a cute little "wiggle" to show her excitement when she sees you and she'd do that dance for you every day if you will take her HOME! Dogs can only stay in the adoption program for 90 days and her time is almost up. Can someone help her? Email kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net for more information.

Meet Ranger, A885434. This gorgeous boy is an Alaskan malamute mix, about 2 years old. His striking brown eyes will get you every time! Ranger is very loving and sweet with humans and fine with other dogs his size but probably would not be good with smaller dogs or cats. His previous owner did not keep him on heartworm preventative, so sadly he also has a case of heartworms that will need to be treated. The cost for this is about $175 and can be partially funded if anyone would like to save him and foster him through the treatment. He's a young dog in great condition otherwise, so this VERY TREATABLE condition should not slow him down. Can anyone out there save Ranger? Email Elizabeth for more information, at evitek@yahoo.com.

Now here's Tinkles! A884889. When Tinkles first arrived at BARC, he was so scared he did not want to leave his kennel. He cowered and refused to come out, even for playtime! He was so scared, all he could do is stop and squat (thus the name!). One of our caring volunteers worked with him, gently coaxing and gaining his trust and now Tinkles is a new dog! He loves coming out for playtime with the other dogs and wags his tail when we come near. He's only about 4 months old and already about 30 pounds so Tinkles will soon outgrow his name and become quite a big, beautiful boy! He has a gentle, calm spirit and will make a great addition to any family. For more information about Tinkles, contact Elizabeth at evitek@yahoo.com.

Meet a real looker...This is Lennie A883098. He is a 2 year old Newfoundland mix. He's about the size of a lab (60 lbs) but has a beautiful, long dark brown coat more like a Newfie. Lennie loves to give slobbery kisses and walks well on a leash. He does great with smaller dogs but wants to be the alpha with other big dogs, so you should set up a meeting with your dog to make sure they get along before adopting. Lennie LOVES humans and wants nothing more than your love and attention. He's been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped...he's been waiting 2 long months at BARC for his new home and is running out of time. For more information on Lennie, email Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

Everybody loves Bernie! (A882335) This is volunteer Nancy's favorite dog (just don't tell the other dogs!). She says he is "so huggable" and its true. Bernie is a 2 year old shepherd mix and your typical big lug. He gets along with most dogs, but occasionally has an issue with another dog...so again, a meeting to make sure they are a match would be best before bringing him home. He would LOVE to be the only dog so he can get all the attention from his human. Bernie loves people and we people LOVE Bernie. We hope someone out there will fall in love too! Email Nancy for more info at njrose@juno.com.

Next up is Buster! He is a great terrier boy!!! He is super smart as are all terriers. He is 1 or so years old, healthy, HW neg, and current on vaccinations. He is house and crate trained. He is a little lover but is full of energy and loves to run and play. He can easily jump a 4 foot wired fence so the fence yard would need to be a 6 or higher wooden fence. He needs lots of exercise. He plays with my girl dogs but would be best an only dog. No male dogs or cats. Would be good with older children. He is such a lover boy and a snuggler. Buster is in foster care. If interested, please contact Carla at 713-444-3012.

Next here's sweet little Lindy. Lindy has a rough time of it and deserves a new beginning. Yes, she did lose an eye at some point..it only gives her character! She's only about 20 pounds tops and we think she's a cairn terrier mix. Lindy LOVES kids and all humans but she is terrified of BIG dogs and doesn't like cats. She also likes to be the boss with other small dogs...so she probably would love being the only dog or with a very submissive little dog friend. Otherwise she is sweet, sweet, sweet with humans of all ages and needs a home of her own so she can be spoiled with love and belly rubs. If you can give this girl the new start she deserves, contact Julie at juliekeeton5@aol.com.

Finally, our heartbreaker story of the week belongs to Max, A886261. Max is a lab/golden retriever mix. He came in to the shelter a couple weeks ago with a beautiful long golden coat. He was very matted and dirty however, so the kind folks at Petsmart donated some grooming time for him. We were shocked to find, under his coat, large rope burns and scars where he had obviously been tied up for long periods of time. It was most shocking because he still has a great LOVE for humans, despite what he's been through and if we had not cut the hair, we might never have known! He's a big boy, 80 pounds or so and about 3 years old. He's been neutered and is heartworm negative. When his coat grows back, he will have beautiful long hair like a golden retriever. Max deserves a new shot with a family who will love him! If you are interested in Max, email Kathy at kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net.

Buster and Lindy are in foster care. All of the other dogs this week are located at the shelter. To meet them, please come out to:

Hope & prayers for you sweet furbabies! It's so amazing what Houston and the surrounding areas have done for the last chance babies. I hope that Sierra and others find a loving home or foster soon!
