Imagine having more than 300 hungry orphaned babies who need feeding every 30 minutes!
Sparrows, Mockingbirds, Carolina Wrens, Owls, Starlings and Doves are just some of the varieties of baby birds that are arriving daily by the dozens at Wildlife Rehab & Education's (WR&E) state-of-the-art wildlife center near downtown Houston. Almost 220 baby birds and over 100 orphaned opossum babies are currently being cared for by staff and volunteers. Baby bird season, which typically begins in March and continues through July, will bring thousands of injured and orphaned little ones to the center for feeding and medical attention. The wildlife center relies on volunteers to assist staff in the care of these thousands of native wild animals. Wildlife Rehab & Education desperately needs your help! They are looking for volunteers to give their time and talent to these amazing baby wild animals. Volunteers will help feed and care for these babies until they are ready for release back into the wild. Volunteers attend an orientation and will get on-the-job training to acquire the specialized skills necessary to give these creatures the best care possible. Wildlife Rehab and Education is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to caring for injured and orphaned wildlife through rehabilitation and public education. For more information on becoming a volunteer visit www.WRandE.org or call 713-861-WILD. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
I wish I lived closer so that I could help! I think it's wonderful that there is such a place in the Houston area to help the wildlife that needs it! Kudos to ALL who work and volunteer to help these precious babies and others wildlife! I know it's not easy, but the rewards FAR outweigh the rest!
