A grizzly bear that appeared in a recent Will Ferrell movie killed a 39-year-old trainer with a bite to his neck. Police say three experienced handlers were working with the bear at Randy Miller's Predators in Action facility yesterday when the bear bit Stephan Miller on the neck. Staff used pepper spray to subdue and contain the five-year-old bear named Rocky and there were no other injuries. A fire department emergency unit was called, but could not revive Miller. How sad that this young man lost his life. My heart and prayers go out to his family. I hope that they don't destroy the bear. He is a wild animal and there are always risks when working with them. As Ms. Richards said in the article, "they aren't cold blooded killers." They are wild animals. It's so sad what humans subject animals to and if they do something within their nature, they are destroyed. It's just not fair. I'm not saying the bears life is worth more than Mr. Miller's life, but Mr. Miller and other trainers know that there is always a risk in their job. They choose to do it anyway. I'm guessing that Mr. Miller probably wouldn't want Rocky put down, if he could say so. That's how I would feel. If that was my job, I chose to do it, I know the risks...don't put the animal down.
