A Pasadena man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly setting fire to a cat.

Danny Villalta was being held Wednesday in the Harris County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Pasadena police were called to an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Red Bluff late Tuesday night after a woman saw a man starting a fire in the courtyard.

When the woman went to investigate, she realized the man was burning her cat.

The cat died at the scene.

Villalta fled the area, but police were able to identify him with the help of other tenants at the complex.

That poor cat! I don't understand people! Some kids tried to set my Ragdoll Siamese, Butch, on fire with a sparkler. They said he was sick and dying and they were going to put him out of his misery. (The boys were 6 & 8.) Fortunately his fur is really thick, so it didn't burn his skin, but his whiskers were burnt down where he'd tried to put it out. The youngest of the 2 came to tell us that Butch was dying. Had he not done that, he would have died from shock! We scooped him up and took him to the emergency vet. He was in shock and had lost whiskers. He wasn't sick and he wasn't dying, they were just mean kids. Butch had never done anything to them. We called the police, and they tried to do something, but the kids were too young. I hope this guy fries for the suffering he caused that cat! That cat didn't deserve the torture he inflicted upon it! My blood is boiling too Susan!

Melody, so sorry to hear what your furbaby, Butch, had to endure at the hands of those mean and cruel children!! And I am so thankful that he survived! I know how hard it must have been on you also!! Even young children should have to face consequences for their actions - especially actions which cause harm and injury to a living creature. I am sorry they were not punished in some way for their crime against Butch!! I too hope the person who burned the cat alive will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!! And as I have said so many times before - "do unto others as they have done unto you" - so now you know how I think pay back should be handled!!

Thanks Donna! (I didn't mean to ramble on about him, but it popped into my head and just infuriated me all over again for him and this poor cat that died!) Butch is doing well and thriving in his 11th year. That incident happend 4 years ago. Fortunately Butch doesn't hold it against other children, he still loves kids. And it could have come out far worse. (Fortunately he has a "strong constitution", as my Grandmama used to say!) Thank God the youngest came and told us. I'd hate to see these kids today. Their parents didn't care, so I'm sure they are big time juvenile delinquents now! I agree with you and your assessment of the punishment. Also..."an eye for an eye".

I am saddened for two things: 1) the laws didn't see fit to understand that this is a very mentally ill person to do this sort of thing, 2) that we, Texans, don't put a stop to this sort of abuse. Does it matter if it is a human being or an animal? I think not. Any one that would do this to one or the other is a sick person that should be put away for many many years - but, we Texans simply do not do something in our legal system to put an end to this sort of thing. We all need to stand up and write to our legislative people and demand they do something about it. For way too many years we have sat by and allowed this to continue - it is up to us to put an end to it. But most of us simply say we can't do anything and there it stays. Well, DO SOMETHING - ALL OF YOU THAT ARE OFFENDED BY THIS - DO SOMETHING!! Contact your area representative, the Governor of this State, etc. and let them know we demand the laws to be changed! Don't stand by the wayside - DO SOMETHING!! Nothing will ever change until we, individually and collectively, DO SOMETHING!! Write letters over and over again until the issue is solved. Otherwise, animal rescue groups like the one I work with are the only ones that will stand up and take issue with these things. Please - we need the publics help to get laws passed to protect these precious animals!!

I write letters all the time Sandee. I even write letters out of state to other reps & officials when I get notices of things in other areas and states. I've even written Puerto Rico about the animal round-up where they were thrown off the bridge and Costa Rica about that "artist" (and I use that term very loosely) who starved a dog in the name of art. I write and email all the time. And I get stupid responses back from a lot about how they appreciate my concern, yada, yada, yada. It's frustrating, but I keep doing it. I figuire my letters alone aren't doing anything, but if mine along with others get to them, then eventually something will happen. I write because of my Butch being burned and my Mick being poisoned. I write because of the cats that we've taken in that others abandoned. I write because I can't stand to see animals or humans abused or mistreated. I write because I hope one day it will make a difference.

I too write letters, send emails, sign petitions. I too wrote to Puerto Rico concerning the animals being thrown from the bridge and Costa Rico concerning the starved dog! I get email alerts from several orginizations requesting emails, letters, calls etc be made. I write because they cannot write for themselves!! It is up to us to take care and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves! And as Melody said - I write because I hope one day it will make a difference!!
