The United States Marine Corps is investigating one of its own after a YouTube video showed a Marine apparently throwing a puppy off a cliff in Iraq. The Marine Corps called the video "shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine." Marine spokesman Maj. Chris Perrine said the soldier in the video was believed to be based in Hawaii and he added, "We do not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action." The video looks like it was shot by a cell phone camera. The Marine holds the black and white puppy by the neck and says, "Cute little puppy, huh?" He then throws the dog over the cliff and the Marine shrugs his shoulders while another Marine laughs and says, "That's mean. That was mean, Motari." Perinne added, "Certainly there's a lot of outrage and a lot of people are upset about it. I think every Marine is upset about this video. We will investigate and take appropriate action and make sure our Marine is safe as well. That is mistreatment of a puppy. That is a violation of anybody's standards. and the Marine Corps sets extremely high standards." The authenticity of the clip, which was viewed more than 145,000 times since it was uploaded to YouTube, has not been verified. "It's questionable," sources told one national online news agency. "But even if it was a fake, it's still outrageous." The video has been removed from YouTube because it violated content rules. HORRENDOUS - SIMPLY HORRENDOUS!! I can only pray that the little pup died on impact - and that he/she didnt lay there and suffer a slow agonizing death!! And these are the type of people allowed to be Marines???!!! I say he is a creep and a coward!! I certainly dont want this person representing me or the USA in our country or any other country!! Please give this "person" a dishonorable discharge - even though he deserves the same treatment he gave the puppy!!What a sad sad day!!!
I agree with Donna, I hope he gets a dishonorable discharge! He is a creep and a coward! Our troops already don't get the support they need, then this guy goes and does this! What a heinous act! I've had many friends and family members who are/were Marines and I can tell you that they aren't happy about this kind of publicity and the act that was commited!
On a happy note, I am choosing to focus on all of the wonderful military people who are bringing or sending home the dogs that they rescue during this war time! And also the ones who are helping the people and children where they are! That is the measure of a great person! God bless our troops!
Hello,
I am a former US Marine and I have just watched the video and yes it is hard to tell if this is a real video or not but to me it seems like it just might be, unfortunatly.
I think whether it is or not it is a very sad day for our Marines. The reality is that each and every Marine wears the uniform not only of our beloved Corps but of all service men and all Americans.
These Marines need to step up to the plate and take responsibility for their actions hence the code of Honor. The Marine Corps also needs to take this action very seriously and expidite this investigation and not harbor these two individuals for even one day. The punishment should be swift and there should not be a second chance for these Lance Corporals or whatever rank they are. They should be subject to the UCMJ and they should be given a discharge unbecoming or even more suitable a dishonorable discharge as their actions truly are DISHONORABLE. They have pinned yet another black mark on the colors of the United States Marines through this video whether it is authentic or fake.
If this is a fake video they should be put in front of the American public to answer for their actions and they should be given the same punishment as if it were real as this is what was portrayed and this was their intention as I see it. Their intentwas for this to look real therefore they should be punished as it IS real. This may seem harsh but their actions and their consequences are harsh to all Marines, all Americans and all civilized human beings.
These individuals carry a heavy load wearing the title "Marine" as it is not a title that is given, it is earned. These individuals have betrayed that honor and therefore have chosen to forfeit the honor.
I am saddened on this day to see such a dispicable and horrifying video of this nature. This poor creature did nothing wrong and these individuals should be ashamed of their actions and should honor the code of the Marines and step out of the ranks of those that came before them and those that will follow.
I apologize to all American's on behalf of the United States Marine Crops and say this is not what we are.
Semper Fi Leathernecks and I am sorry to see something as horrible as this.
Sincerely,
LCPL Van Raden

LCPL Van Raden,
First of all, let me say thank you to you for your service to our country. I understand the pride of being a Marine, or actually a serviceman for any branch of the military (family and friends: Marines, Army, & Airforce). I have uncles who were Marines in Vietnam and they are still proud of their Marine service today. And I have to say, very saddened by the conduct of these 2 Marines. I know that this is not what the Marines and other troops are. There are so many good people who wear the uniform of our different troops, it is sad that in a time when they need the support of people, their fellow servicemen mar the image more for some who don't give their support. I pray for our troops daily. I try to say thank you to veterans or servicemen when I see them, even though I don't know them or them me. I am angry about this, and agree with your assessment about their punishment, real or hoax. But as I said in my previous posting, I choose to focus on the good that our servicemen and women are doing...helping other animals, people, and children where they are. I am a proud American (Texan born and raised), and am thankful to all who sacrifice so much to protect us and our freedoms. Thank you again for your service! God Bless our troops!
I did not mean to dishonor all of the wonderful men and women who serve in our armed forces by my comments above. I too thank our service men and women for all they do for not only the USA but for countries around the world who need our help! But I was so amazed and distraught at viewing the heartless act shown on the video, I made no mention of this. For this, I apologize. I certainly do not think that these individuals are representative of the many wonderful humans who protect us day in and day out!! And thank you, LCPL Van Raden, for your comments. Lets just pray that this type of cruel act is never repeated again!!
Ok I have to say ive watched this video and I or one think its a fake, yes fake. Look at the facts, 1 the puppy didnt move around or make any noise while being held, 2 when it was thrown it went end over end and didnt move like what a iving animal would in that situation, 3 you can hear dogs barking in the background, so it is possible that after throwing the puppy (which may have been a prop or already dead at the time) the had a live puppy off camera and pulled his tail or something to make it whimper for the sound, the sound may have also been ''dubed'' in after the making of the video.
Do i think it was right to make this video even if it was a fake? NO certainly not. But there is some comfort in the fact that it wasent a live puppy, it was either already dead or it was a very life like prop.
Sorry if you disagree but thats my opinion and i am intitled to it.
Go to Petfinder.com and look under Messages / Animal Community. There is a reply from the "person" who did this. He curses a lot and doesnt feel he did anything wrong - in fact he thinks he did the puppy a favor because "it was a stray"!! SICK SICK SICK "HUMAN BEING"!!!!
Anyone can post with as someone else in the internet, do not be fooled by this, oh btw, i really am Donna from the above comment (wink, wink)
"Other donna" - I guess you would be right on that!! And wink wink to you too!!
I want to talk to this man and find out what was going on in his tiny noggin when he did that! He should be put in jail!
I think he should be given a general medical discharge and receive service connection for psychiatric issues. I'm sure he has PTSD. They should be helping him instead of making an example of him. The locals were probably mad because he threw away their dinner!
