Mars Petcare is recalling two types of dry dog food due to potential salmonella contamination and the AP reports that tests of two Chinese brands of dog food treats sold at Wal-Mart stores found traces of melamine. Mars Petcare is recalling the 50-pound variety of its Red Flannel-brand Large Breed Adult Formula Dry Dog Food due to salmonella risk. The Red Flannel dog food recall specifically covers only Pennsylvania. The salmonella risk applies to cats, dogs as well as to humans. Krasdale Gravy dry dog food sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania has also been recalled by Mars Petcare. The Krasdale Gravy brand dry dog food is also being recalled because of a potential salmonella contamination.
