The 30th Annual Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows begins today and runs through Sunday, July 22, at Houston's Reliant Center. Visit one of the finest and largest indoor dog shows in America held in Houston's Reliant Center. There is breed judging (conformation) and obedience. Watch agility dogs racing over obstacle courses, flyball teams hurdling to beat the clock, and four-footed athletes catching Frisbees and dancing to music (Canine Freestyle). There are practical clinics on dog health, grooming and training or attend a "Meet the Breed" seminar that introduces potential dog owners to the pleasures and pitfalls of owning particular breeds. Visit your favorite Breed Rescue Club, Rescue Organization or shelter booth and shop at hundreds of vendor booths. And, last but certainly not least, check out the Third Annual Designer Doghouse Competition and Showcase benefiting Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP). If you're looking to add a new puppy or dog to your family then this is the place to come and meet a lot of different breeds, talk to the handlers and even some breeders about the breed they fancy and are striving to make better by competing with their dogs and only breeding the best to the best. This is the place to find a reputable breeder for the breed of you choice, not from the classifieds, pet stores, side of the road puppy peddlers or flea markets. Get phone numbers and build rapores with the handlers and breeders at the dog show if a purebred puppy is what you're looking for.
For those interested in a purebred dog that doesn't have to have papers or pedigree, check out the breed rescue booths that will be at the show. There will also be All Breed rescues for those of you who prefer a good 'ol mixed up mutt of various breeds in one dog.
