Last chance for dozens of Houston dogs!

Time is running out for more than 30 dogs at BARC -- the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care -- in Houston.

The dogs have been at BARC for more than three months. If they don't get adopted by Monday, January 8, they will be euthanized.

BARC believes it's inhumane to keep dogs in small cages for months on end. They also need the space for other adoptable dogs that come in daily.

Most of the dogs need some extra TLC, socialization and training. Few are housetrained, but most can learn quickly.

All of these animals have been spayed or neutered and are current on all vaccinations.

The adoption fee is only $55.
If you're not ready to adopt, you could consider fostering a dog or two to prevent them from being euthanized.
BARC is located at 3200 Carr St.
The shelter is open Mon-Fri from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

I don't understand this. I thought that this was a no kill shelter. How truly sad for these un-wanted pups.

BARC is NOT a no-kill shelter. This is not an uncommon occurance - happens weekly however, these animals have been in the adoption program for a while and it is not good for them to be there so long without human affection.
Come volunteer with us and help get these animals out to 6 area PetsMarts on Saturdays. Friends of BARC does over 1/2 the total adoptions at the shelter during the year and we need volunteers! www.friendsofbarc.org.

Please help us help them find homes!

I am just now having the opportunity to read AA today. This is the first that I've heard that these poor babies only have until Monday to find homes. I am telling all I can about it to help get the word out. Why didn't BARC get the word out earlier? I hope people see this announcement, to be able to help or at least get word out, before it's too late.

No Grace BARC is the city pound, is not a no kill shelter. I'm glad though to see they are at least trying to get these babies adopted out before their time is up. Seeing their pictures though really pulls at your heart strings. Hopefully someone will make a difference for these deserving animals.

I will be praying for all of these furbabies!! They all deserve to be loved!! I understand that shelter life is not good for long periods of time, but as a long term foster mom for a rescue org in Humble, I also know that it can sometimes take a very long time to find a forever home!! Hopefully these wonderful souls will be allowed at least a little more time to find theirs!!

I have only now (Sunday evening) heard of
the eminent deaths of so many dogs. Now that
word is just getting around, can there not
be a delay? Give us --and the dogs-- a few
more days to find homes?
Thank you

Please don't put Molly down - I cannot get there to see her today but she looks just like our dog Pretty Girl who died in September. I can possibly make it tomorrow.

She is beautiful.

Hello
Kudo's to KHOU for orchestrating this. The way we (as a society) treat our animals is disgusting. If this were an occasional thing, it would be bad enough, but sooo many wonderful animals are PTS each week/month/year that it is heartbreaking!
My heart goes out to the folks who have to deal with this miserable situation face-to-face, those who do their best at places like BARC.
Until animal "owners" realize that spay and neutering programs are the only way to eventually stop this outrage, then they must take responsibility for being the root of the problem.
SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS! DO NOT LET THEM RUN LOOSE!
You are supposed to be the "thinking" part of the relationship with your pets...
THINK!

Any of the people who have expressed an interest in adopting or fostering need to contact BARC - not blog their interest on Animal Attraction!! Who knows whether BARC is even aware of all of the interest that this information has generated!! And who knows if they are even reading what is being written!! Hopefully anyone interested has already thought of this or it may be too late!!!!!

I agree with Donna, you must call or go there and speak to them directly otherwise they have no idea that someone is interested in a particular animal.
