Houston's Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care, BARC for short, is hoping animal lovers will step in and help spare the lives of 13 FULLY VETTED dogs currently on death row. They have all been spayed/neutered, microchipped and fully vetted. So what's the problem? They've extended their stay and are scheduled to be euthanized by the end of Friday, Jan. 12. The shelter has an abundance of animals seeking homes and a shortage of space. Despite all of the vet care, they remain unadopted. Here's what you can do to help: 1. Foster a dog. 2. Financially sponsor a dog while it is kenneled off-site. 3. Adopt a dog! To see pictures of the dogs in question and to get more information about fostering or sponsoring contact Kathy Deffebach at: kdeffebach@sbcglobal.net 14 CommentsLeave a comment |
Just wanted to thank you for keeping Animal Attraction "alive".
I need pictures of these poor babies!! I can't stand the thought that any innocent, loveable animal would be euthanized because they are un-lucky enough to end up in a kill shelter! Ugh!! I want to help...
I am cross posting this to everyone I know. Someone please help these poor babies!!
Donna, I have a link of pictures for these guys but I am not sure if I can post it on here. They are all so incredibly cute and are sure to melt your heart.
Lauren, if you want to see pictures then email the address in the blog. They will send pictures! They are so cute. PLease, if you can foster or sponsor as many as you can.
Sheila, I have sent an email requesting pictures also. Sad thing is (as you know)- this is a never ending situation! For every one that is adopted or fostered, there is at least one to take its place!! I too will continue to make phone calls (as I did 1/5 for the original 30) and pray, pray, and pray some more!! I wish I could do more but with 3 dogs/10 cats of my own (taken in as strays) and the 3 foster dogs, I am literally out of space!! Sure hope these furbabies can be saved!!!
Donna, I wish what you said wasn't true. Although, unfortunately I know it is. It just hits me closer to home when they are in my city and I can see pictures of them.
In Galveston they found a Mama and 8 babies caught in a coyote trap and of course they need fosters. :-(
I saw that story too, Sheila! I am just thankful that they are all safe for now!! Sure tugged at my heartstrings, though!!
If anyone from Scout's Honor reads this, I sent you money this morning and you are wonderful for saving the dogs today. I wouldn't have known if a friend wouldn't have told me about you and sent me pictures of the dogs. I saw the pictures and was shocked that most were Pit Mix. My home is full of dogs and cats and I can't give any a home, but I sent you money. I have three dogs and two cats.
I'm so happy BARC gave these beautiful animals the chance to be saved, and I think you are wonderful for trying to save all of them and going to the television stations to try and get the news out for them. Tonya
Could someone clarify what Tonya posted about Scouts Honor saving these dogs? I haven't seen a story on that. I emailed Kathy yesterday after I saw the story, but haven't heard anything yet. (I know she's probably had a lot of emails to respond to.) Are they the only group to help these dogs or did others help too? I'd like to send money to help these groups since I am unable, with all of my furbabies, to take any in. Thank you!!!
A wonderful group of cats and dogs showed me the information on this and I was so sad to read it.. I am glad of the group that is doing all they can to save the remaining dogs even though I live in New York I will be sponsoring a dog... everyone keep up the good work.. pat
Apparently, Scout's Honor Rescue Group is taking the pups that didn't have fosters or adopters.
I am fostering Diamond through the Scout's Honor Rescue group.
Sheila, I never heard back from Kathy at BARC from the email I sent requesting pics. Not that I could help more than calls and prayers due to a totally full house! But it sounds like they have all been taken care of!! And thanks to you for being able to foster Diamond (the name doesnt sound familiar so not sure if he/she was part of the original 30 pics or not!!) Thanks fo Scouts Honor Rescue group too!! (I think I read about them in the Chronicle a few weeks ago - sounds like a great organization!!)
Does Scouts Honor Rescue have a website??

Donna, I posted the email repsonse on here but it is waiting for approval (I guess it was too long). If you would like to email me (swiora at hotmail dot com) I can forward you the response that the BARC lady sent everyone. It sounds like this lady is busy. She said she is over whelmed with responses/ This morning when I checked the link there were 42 dogs on it. I don't know why more keep showing up, but anyway I spoke to the lady I am getting Diamond from and she says they will be taking all of the dogs. if they didn't have adopters of fosters they will be taken to a kennel. Hopefully they won't be there long.
