Yup. She says it right here. She's referring to Nelly, the dog dragged in Mineola. Previous blog posts here and here.

I wish I could say a mouthful to that Mother! I would tell her that her words just made me more angry, because the fact is the people who did save Nelly said her son and another friend just threw Nelly in the ditch to die! Come on, he was in a truck, he could have placed Nelly in the back of that truck and took out as fast as possible to a Vet's office. She has not raised her son to be responsible, it is apparent why, since her words show me that she is not a responsible pet owner herself. Her statement makes me angry and if there is any justice at all in this world, than those two boys should be made responsible for their actions in throwing an animal they injured(accident or not) in a ditch to die a horrible death that they caused to happen. They should be punished, community service picking up trash for many months and cleaning highways or something they will remember, because they should remember by the Authorities that they did a bad thing, since Mom doesn't seem to think they did......

I have seen people who put thier dogs in the back of pickup trucks without being cross tethered more times than I can count, and it breaks my heart everytime. The sad fact is - if a dog (regardless of size) is not properly secured it will jump out at some point. Catches a scent on the wind - sees something interesting or plain gets scared. I do wish that the Mineola dog would be permentantly removed from that family - kids responsible? No Way that parent was responsible PERIOD!

That woman is not telling the truth, pure and simple. As for the community judging them, by God they SHOULD judge the actions of those kids. It is called accountability. So many things about that interview just makes my skin crawl. Does she really think the public will buy that pathetic story?
I'm so grateful that sweet dog is with responsible, loving people.
Now let's hope the courts deal with these people accordingly.

PHULLEEEAASSEEE, does that woman really think we are all that stupid? Her son was no more going to get something to cover that dog than she was. Also, her statement that we shouldn't judge until we know the facts is absolutely ludicrous. I believe we know the facts, she raised a heartless, soulless child and I can see where he gets his attitude about animals from, HER. First of all, why was the dog in the truck if he didn't own it anymore, secondly, why was the rope wrapped around the trailer hitch and lastly, why didn't he take the dog IMMEDIATELY to a vet as opposed to leaving it on the side of the road AND why didn't they get help from the people who were screaming at them to stop? The whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and for her to try and play it off as an accident is just adding insult to injury.

If your son was such an animal lover then he would have wrapped Nelly up in his own shirt and would have cared less about the blood or anything else an gone to an animla emergency. It really says something about her and who she lets her kids hang around with since his friend was Kicked out of his house. I beleive they meant to do it and just got caught now they are making excuses!!!!! But the law or GOD will punish them.. God Bless

Anyone who does such a horrible thing to a dog should do hard time in prison!! If it were up to me that would still not be good enough for this kid! There is no excuse for this to have happened!! None at all!!! I only hope that this poor dog survives and gets a wonderful and loving home!!!!

People who abuse animals were not raised right by their parents. I have a 14 year old son who loves animals and respects them because I instilled this in him starting at a very young age. He once stopped his friends from killing a frog because I taught him to respect anything that has a beating heart and is a living creature. (Texas roaches and mosquitos are the exception!). I think respect and kindness for animals should be a course taught to elementary school students. Get it instilled in them at a young age that it's wrong to hurt animals.

Whether they "meant" to drag the dog or not should not matter. They still need to be punished. I can think of a lot of accidents where "Oops, I didn't mean to do that, it was an accident." still leaves you responsible for the outcome. You have to accept responsibility for the consequences of your actions, period! That they just left the dog was unconscionable, one could have stayed while the other went for help. And this is a small town, it doesn't take an hour to go for help. Yeah, right. I'd feel sorry for the mother (how intensely embarrassing!) if she wasn't obviously trying to whitewash what her son did with a story so lame it's an insult to the intelligence of even the most average person. So sad!

Oh My!! I just found out that one of the boys sister was mauled in the face by one of the family's Pit Bulls on November 14, 2006. This happened at their residence. The lady that did the live news interview about her son's innocence, Tara Landen, her daughter. The little girl is about 10 years old and was attacked in the face. The hospital had to do emergency surgery on her face. I heard the scars are bad. I would fear for my life if I were being raised by this Landen Lady. What's going to be done about it? Where is JUSTICE?? I also found out that the Grand Jury met on 12/21/2006, but these lovely gentlemen were not on the docket. Another meeting will be held in January.
