Just click here. ...I know this is two years old.. but if what happened then is happening now.. UGH. I received an email that's being forwarded around about a dog in horrible, horrible condition that lived in Greece. He was a stray. He was injured on his mouth: a hoe there so big you could see his tongue and teeth right through it. The pictures made my skin crawl, and I will not post them here. However, there are allegations that Greece has neglected and poisoned dogs before the 2004 Olympics. Again, the pictures and video are graphic. You'll have to follow the link to the In Defense of Animals >> Continue reading: Horrible pictures of stray dogs in Greece Rescue Bank, a 501 (c) (3), has started operations in Houston to support the animal rescue and foster community by collecting and distributing much-needed supplies. From the Humane Society of the United States: "FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the mutilation of at least three cats in Beaumont, Texas over the past few months. The Case: EMTs in South Carolina literally had to pry off a python that had wrapped itself around a friend of its owner. By now most of you know the judge's ruling about the puppies from the Pit Bull seizure in Liberty County: they are to be auctioned off intact, meaning, no spaying or neutering. This has caused a huge uproar and many calls and emails to HHS. I read a comment (on this post) from a concerned woman requesting HHS buy the dogs at the auction themselves. HHS has a tough enough time funding itself and the anim...
The Associated Press is reporting that investigators believe Thomas Weigner - the owner of the Pit Bulls currently housed at the Houston Humane Society -- was shot to death because of his involvement in the dogfighting industry.. Here is the beginning of story from the AP: Thomas Weigner was awakened by his barking American pit bull terriers, nearly 300 of them on his 24 acres down a county road that eventually leads to the Trinity River bottom. At least three masked men broke into his brick ranch-style house and tied up his family -- including his three children -- and searched for mone... I emailed back and forth with the folks at HHS who have been housing the Pit Bulls. Here is a bit of what Courtney Franks had to say about the judge's ruling (read a summary here).. Warning: this is a long post, but there's a lot going on. The Pit Bull seizure in Liberty County this week has spurred a lot of discussion and even brought some trouble to the Houston Humane Society. A reader forwarded this email on to me: Because dogs (and other pets) are an integral part of the lives of families in the military, as they are with any American family, deployment can wreak havoc with a military family's pet situation. Deaf or not, the dogs and cats of these families often need a place to go temporarily when the serviceperson is sent somewhere where dogs are not allowed. Often, the family left in the states can keep the dog until the end of the deployment, or a friend or relative can, but sometimes housing changes or the lack of dog-loving friends or relatives can pose a serious...

LONDON (... Nothing like coming in to work and having a host of emails about sad things and BAD things in the animal world. I am consoling myself with the fact that we've finally gotten BARC set up with its weekly weblog, and I have been wasting a little time at work watching the Alaskan brown bears having a good old time fishing for salmon. Still, there is the realization that bad things are happening, and perhaps you can help do something about...
