A viewer emailed KHOU with this plea:
I am writing because I have exhausted all other possible means. My situation is that I have a kitten in a tree that has been there for 7 days without food or water.
I have tried various sources to obtain any kind of help but have met with complete disinterest and/or an 'I don't want to be bothered attitude.'
I have called the local fire department, Houston SPCA, Conroe Animal Shelter, advertised to pay, and even called several 'tree' removal companies, one said
they would be glad to do a 'community service' if I paid them $250.00. (I offered $100.00.) Every day I go out to feed my animals, she cries and cries for me to rescue her, but I have given up as to what to do and it is breaking my heart not to be able to get her down. I don't think she can go much longer without food or water. I would so appreciate any help you might be able to offer.
If you have suggestions on how to help, PLEASE email Susan here: Jodeblonde@aol.com
I am praying for you and your furbaby. I love cats and kittens!!!!! Precious baby, come on down. How high up in the tree is she? I once got one of my babies down by luring her with a strip of uncooked bacon, try that, maybe it will work. Let me know.
Your best bet is to provide a means of escape (such as a ladder) which is okay for an adult cat, but may not work for a kitten. Suggestions depend on the age & size of the kitten. Assuming the kitten isn't feral, you may be able to catch it. If you can't catch it, try putting a can of food where the kitten can reach it safely. Remember, the kitten got up there by itself. It should be able to figure out a way to get down. Cats are very intelligent creatures - much more so than we give them credit for.
Perhaps Lisa should announce this on the air and ask people to contact you with donations to pay that company to help you. Drat money-hungry people without compassion.
After so many days the kitten will probably faint from exhaustion, dehydration and hunger and may fall out of the tree.
I pray that you are able to get him off the tree.
What part of town are you in. I will climb the tree myself and get the little guy.
For goodness sake, hire a boom truck. She has probably already suffered liver damage from lack of food and water:
