As a member of Friends of BARC I was interested in seeing this story. Our non-profit is responsible for 50% of the adoptions mentioned. We take animals from the pound to 4 area PetsMart every Saturday to be adopted - we need volunteers! www.friendsofbarc.org Here's hoping next time BARC is in the news - it will be for something positive. SPAY & NEUTER!

Bless you, Friends of BARC!! You are doing a wonderful thing by helping to find forever homes for so many needy fur-kids!! I have been fostering 1 dog and 2 puppies for a rescue org out of Humble, so my Saturdays are already spent at their adoption days. But I pray that you receive lots of volunteers from the caring people of Houston!!

The incidence of the Jack Russell Terrior being washed down the drain is reprehensible! I'm sick just picturing it in my head, and cannot believe the city/management is allowing (condoning?)such things to happen!!
And, $1500 being spent on artwork to make the public clientele more comfortable while 'inmates' are going without care/meds is inexcusable! I can honestly say I was NOT particularly comforted by it when I was recently at BARC trying to rescue a dog. After 48 hours and a lot of red tape, I succeeded... only to lose the little guy a week later to distemper. A dismal end to a dismal attempt to work with what is essentially a city-funded slaughterhouse!

With all the focus on the animals, people need to remember that there are human beings who have to work at BARC. The staff at BARC have to deal with poorly maintained facilities, lack of supplies and a public/management that doesn't seem to care. Not all of the BARC employees are bad. There are some that really truly love animals and welcome the day when the City changes its definition of animal control.
