Louisiana says NO VETS can come in to help...

and this has animal rescue groups still working in the area up in arms:

"Louisiana has announced that the Hurricane Katrinar escue phase is over. Out-of-state veterinarians are banned from volunteering their services on behalf of the animals of greater New Orleans. Rescuers have been threatened with arrest if they attempt to give food and water to animals in Orleans Parish. Outside rescue groups are told they should turn all operations over to local authorities and leave the state."

Alley Cat Allies and AnimalrescueNewOrleans.com are pleading for help to resolve this issue.

I don't understand Louisiana. I guess they will just let their animals slowely starve to death. They don't want our help, but they sure will take our tax dollars. They have done nothing, but block animal rescue from the beginning. I hope enough people call and complain about this and it gets resolved. I can tell you after this is all over New Orleans will never get any of my money. The way they have treated people trying to help is a disgrace. I want to know where the big guns (HSUS) are that we gave millions to. It seems they are no where to be found. They are defintely not putting up a fight for the animals. It only seems like the small groups are doing anything.

Oh my Gosh this is criminal. Banning volunteers from saving lives? After everything these animals have been through!? This puts my stomach in knots. Who can we call and complain to get this resolved, can you please post this information Lisa?

This is insane!
As someone involved in animal rescue, I'm shocked. Politics above living, breathing, joyful beings who, once domesticated, can't fend for themselves. So should we pull the politicians out, not feed them, nor offer shelter and medical attention? Wait! Haven't we done this, to the hundreds of thousands of evacuees/victims? Not to mention hosting the NOLA mayor and others at various events around Texas. He can go to a baseball game, on our dime, but volunteers can't save a cat. Wow.

Same mentality that keep people from taking their pets in the first place, that led to the Super Dome, the Convention Center, the buses under water, and the general lack of preparedness by both the city and state governments. Texans, boycott Louisiana gambling, go to Oklahoma instead.

That does not make sense!

Goes to show how some folks are just plain 'dumb and self-centered'! Those animals need every bit of help they can get from anyone and then these folks are wanting shelter and food for themselves?
I suggest they go back to their Louisiana 'home' they had and suffer like the animals that are there not getting any care!
