GREAT NEWS FROM THE Red Cross!

7:16 PM Wed, Aug 31, 2005 |

 E-mail

I will email individually all of the wonderful people who have come forward to offer temporary housing for animals, but I wanted to get this posted first: I have just spoken with the CEO of Houston's Red Cross Chapter about the best way to contact evacuees who need shelter for their animals. He has asked me to email him a list of people who have space available, and he will forward that to all the local Red Cross shelters, who will be able to distribute that information to evacuees.

So... if you have not already emailed me about temporary animal boarding, please do so at lforonda@khou.com. Let me know how many animals/type you can board, for how long, cost (or not), phone number, and address. I am going to put in into an Excel file and email him tomorrow evening.

Thank you all for stepping up to the plate and coming forward. Our Spirit of Texas Hurricane Drive brought in more than $6 million this afternoon. Houston - and Texas - have hearts worth the fabled size of the Lone Star State!

DEAR LISA AND CHANNEL 11,
MY NAME IS ERICA AND MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE AN 11 ACRE HORSE RANCH BETWEEN ALVIN AND DICKINSON ON 517. IN THE STORIES WE'VE SEEN SINCE KATRINA CHANGED SO MANY LIVE JUST DAYS AGO THERE HAS BEEN PLENTY OF MENTION OF PEOPLES "PETS" MEANING CATS AND DOGS. AS A LONG TIME HORSE TRAINER AND MEMBER OF THE A.Q.H.A.THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO HOLD OUR HORSES AS BELOVED FAMILY PETS AS WELL. WITH THIS IN MIND I WRITE TO OFFER HELP TO OUR FELLOW HORSE LOVERS FROM LOUISIANA.WE HAVE 10 STALLS AVAILABLE TO HORSES THAT NEED THEM AS WELL AS SEVERAL TURN OUT PASTURES WITH GOOD GRASS IN THEM. WE WOULD ONLY NEED PEOPLE TO HELP PAY FOR FEED COST AND TO HELP CARE FOR THIER HORSES.IN EXTREME CASES ARRANGEMENTS COULD BE MADE TO DEFRAY THE COST OF FEED. I HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH MY FEED STORE AND AM PRETTY SURE I CAN GET THEM TO DONATE OR REDUCE THE COST OF FEED EVEN MORE THEN THE PROFESSIONAL DISCOUNT THEY ALREADY GIVE ME.
I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO GET THIER HORSES OUT I COULD'NT HAVE LEFT MINE BEHIND AND NOW NOT ABLE TO GO HOME FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR 1000 LB PET IS A PROBLEM. IF WE CAN HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM FEEL FREE TO PASS THIS INFO ON TO ANYONE WHO CAN USE IT. THANK YOU AND CHANNEL 11 FOR ALL YOU DO!

My husband and I own a rental home in Marietta, Georgia that is currently vacant. We would like to offer it to a hurricane victim family that had to evacuate and chose not to leave their pets behind. I don't know if it makes any sense. I know many people leave and don't bring their pets for whatever reason. Realizing people with pets have a hard time finding housing, we would like to offer our house to a family that did bring their pets or stayed through the hurricane with their pets and now have no place to live or go.

I have attached a link to the home. It is currently for sale. However, we would be willing to let this family live in it, rent free, for up to six months. Unfortunately, it does not have a fenced yard, but it wouldn't take much to fence it and we could probably do it. Dogs, cats, fish, etc are welcome as long as they keep their animals inside and care for them as they are part of the family. (Meaning, I don't want their dog tied to a tree outside.)

Please feel free to contact me at 770-330-7560. We want to help if we can. Unfortunately, this rental house has taken about all of our disposable income so we aren't able to donate money, but are hoping to help in this way.

Sincerely,

Cindy

We can offer housing and feed and space for 5 to 10 horses, burros, mules or even some cows for anyone in the disaster areas. We have a 30 acre ranch and access to 100 additional acres and are on the ranch 24/7. We have approximately 30 acres with excellent thick grass, fresh water and shade. I can transport 2 horses in my own trailer.
