Make it stop... Please make it stop!

1:59 PM Mon, Dec 22, 2008 |

Wow! When will the snow stop, it's the question I keep hearing. The answer is a little complicated. Snow showers with the current storm will gradually taper off later today and tonight. The last place to see snow stop will be the Cascades. Tuesday we should see a bit of a break before the next storm arrives. Yes I said next storm. Wednesday morning we'll see snow on the valley floor in the morning hours. At best maybe a couple of inch...

It's Slippery Out There!

8:02 PM Sun, Dec 14, 2008 |

Don't need to tell you it's cold and snowy, but if you do venture out...remember; It's the Stopping...not the Going. So give yourself plenty of room, be patient with the other motorists (insert "those that are driving slower than you").
The overpasses, on-ramps and bridges are the worst, but that's no surprise. Just keep it in mind and keep your speed constant. Studs or chains are a must.
And here's an interesting traffic tip...

Snow On The Way

7:38 PM Fri, Dec 12, 2008 |

Cold air is now on the way, pouring into the Pacific Northwest behind a strong cold front. Just after 7:00 tonight Sky 8 our mightly whopper chopper, was reporting snow and rain mixed at 1000ft. Between now and Saturday morning we're going to see sticking snow at 1000ft.

I don't see snow on the downtown streets tonight or even during the day on Saturday. But Saturday night is a different matter.

Brace The Crash

10:43 PM Thu, Dec 11, 2008 |

Ok-- that's a little over the top but at least I've your attention. I've spent most of the day staring into a computer screen, looking at charts, numbers and satellite loops. I gotta get a life!

There is no way around it-- we're going to get hit with a pretty big storm. I still see this coming in 3 parts.

Part one: Rain and wind arrives Friday.
A powerful low pressure center will come ashore on the Washington coast near Abe...

Still On Target

7:35 PM Wed, Dec 10, 2008 |

Not much has changed in the last 24 hours. It looks we're going to get a good winter storm starting Friday. Thursday will be a fairly quiet day. Clouds in the morning. Sunbreaks by the afternoon and a high near 50 degrees.

The rug gets pulled out from under us Friday. Rain and very windy conditions will hit the coast in the morning. A high wind watch will go up on the coast 24 hours before the storm arrives.

The White Wall Of Death

7:39 PM Tue, Dec 09, 2008 |

That's what we call an approaching snow storm or even chance of snow headed our way here at the big 8 ski. Yes-- I know it's a bit on the macabre side. Call it what you want, colder air and a chance-- I think a good chance of snow is on the way later this week.

Snow is the toughest thing to forecast in Portland. Everything has to line up just right, for the white stuff to hit the valley floor. Even then I think a dispensation from ...

Time to dig into the mail bag and answer " The" most asked weather question of the past couple of weeks. Please read the following--

When is the snow coming ??????????? I guess if you knew that, your job would be a ton easier huh?

Crazy, last year (I think it was) we had skiing going on right now, and nothing now..... ARGH!

I won't blame you like some of your co-workers do J (Cough Mrs. Barry cou...
