Author (#241)December 2008 ArchivesWow! When will the snow stop, it's the question I keep hearing. The answer is a little complicated. Snow showers with the current storm will gradually taper off later today and tonight. The last place to see snow stop will be the Cascades. Tuesday we should see a bit of a break before the next storm arrives. Yes I said next storm. Wednesday morning we'll see snow on the valley floor in the morning hours. At best maybe a couple of inch... Don't need to tell you it's cold and snowy, but if you do venture out...remember; It's the Stopping...not the Going. So give yourself plenty of room, be patient with the other motorists (insert "those that are driving slower than you"). Cold air is now on the way, pouring into the Pacific Northwest behind a strong cold front. Just after 7:00 tonight Sky 8 our mightly whopper chopper, was reporting snow and rain mixed at 1000ft. Between now and Saturday morning we're going to see sticking snow at 1000ft. I don't see snow on the downtown streets tonight or even during the day on Saturday. Not much has changed in the last 24 hours. It looks we're going to get a good winter storm starting Friday. Thursday will be a fairly quiet day. Clouds in the morning. Sunbreaks by the afternoon and a high near 50 degrees.
That's what we call an approaching snow storm or even chance of snow headed our way here at the big 8 ski. Yes-- I know it's a bit on the macabre side. Call it what you want, colder air and a chance-- I think a good chance of snow is on the way later this week. Snow is the toughest thing to forecast in Portland. Everything has to line up just right, for the white stuff to hit the valley floor. Even then I think a dispensation from ... Time to dig into the mail bag and answer " The" most asked weather question of the past couple of weeks. Please read the following--
