No It's Not A Heatwave!
Yes it's hot! Record breaking heat is on the way today, but it's not a heatwave. I've seen other broadcasters calling this a heatwave but they're incorrect.
The National Weather Service defines a heatwave as "three consecutive days with temperatures above 90 degrees." Today's high will reach a sizzling 102. Wednesday I'm forecasting 100,Thursday if we reach 90 or above then it's offically a heatwave.
It's still hot, Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings are posted for most of Western Oregon and Southwest Washington. If you don't have A.C. you'll be hard pressed to escaped the hot weather. Even the Oregon Coast will see temperatures in the 90s today.

Keep an eye on the thermometer. New record high temperatures are possible in Astoria 77 in 1990
Portland 98 2002
Troutdale 97 in 1985
Hillsboro 102 in 1961
Eugene 98 in 2002
Think cool thoughts
