11:03 p.m. - PGE reports the total number of customers off-line is now about 245,000, about 30 percent of its customers. This compares to 300,000 customers without power in the Dec. 12, 1995 "Big Blow" storm, about 46 percent of customers back then.

10:40 p.m. - ODOT reports a number of major closures on main Oregon highways, including:
· U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) - between Staley's Junction (milepost 45) and milepost 15, three miles west of Alder Creek Road.
· U.S. 26 (Mt. Hood Highway) - between Sandy (milepost 26) and Sleepy Hollow Drive (milepost 36).
· U.S. 30 - eastbound lanes are closed in Linnton (milepost 8.27). Both directions of traffic are using the westbound lanes .
· Highway 6 - between Banks (milepost 49) and Donaldson Creek (milepost 4).

ODOT urges the public to delay driving until Friday.

10:27 p.m. - At least 16,000 Clark Public Utilities customers are without power as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

10:19 p.m. - KGW Meteorologist Matt Zaffino reports peak wind gusts on Mt. Hood at Mt. Hood Meadows of 99 mph, forecasts peak winds well over 100 mph before the storm passes through.

10:05 - PGE reports 225,000 customers without power . About 28% of PGE customers are reported to be without power as of 10 p.m.

9:25 - MAX rail service in Portland disrupted by storm. BLUE LINE is being served by buses from Willow Creek to Hillsboro (Hatfield Govt Center) is still down. Seven stations are affected. Galleria/Library station and Beaverton Transit Center had been affected but are now reported up and running.

YELLOW LINE is still on buses from Rose Quarter to Expo Center.

9:20 p.m. - At least 21,000 Clark Public Utilties customers are currently without power due to damage caused by strong winds that are battering the area. The outages affect many areas of Clark County. Crews are working to repair damage and restore service as quickly as possible. Customers outages should call the utility's PowerLine at 360-992-8000 to report the outage and get updates on repair efforts

9:05 p.m. - Clackamas River above flood stage at Estacada, still rising.

8:50 p.m. - PGE reports 190,000 customers now without power across its service area.

8:25 p.m. - Pacific Power is continuing to respond to outages affecting more than 93,000 customers along the coast, in the mid-Willamette Valley and in the southern part of the state.

7:50 p.m. - ODOT announces Highway 6 is now closed due to falling trees and very hazardous conditions from milepost 49 in Banks to milepost 9 near Tillamook. The full closure will remain in place until further notice. Currently there is no detour route. Drivers are urged to postpone travel until tomorrow, if possible.

7:46 p.m. - A storm-related power outage at Clean Water Services' Durham Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility caused the overflow of rain diluted sewage into the Tualatin River Thursday evening between 5:01 and 5:48 p.m. Some sewage may also have overflowed from nearby manholes. Area residents and pets are advised to avoid contact with flood water in lower Fanno Creek and the Tualatin River downstream of Tigard's Cook Park.

7:44 p.m. - Pacific Power is reports more than 84,000 customers are without service along the coast, in the mid-Willamette Valley and in the southern part of the state.

6:53 p.m. - The Captain of the Port of Portland and the Captain of the Port of Seattle have issued that the following river bar entrances be closed due to hazardous conditions: GRAYS HARBOR, WILLAPA BAY, COLUMBIA RIVER, NEHALEM RIVER, TILLAMOOK BAY, NETARTS BAY, SILETZ BAY, DEPOE BAY, YAQUINA BAY, SIUSLAW RIVER, UMPQUA RIVER, COOS BAY, COQUILLE RIVER, ROGUE RIVER, CHETCO RIVER and QUILLAYUTE RIVER.


6:52 p.m. - The Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency 9-1-1 dispatch center in Clark County reports it is being inundated with non-emergency calls and urges residents to please only use 9-1-1 for true life threatening emergencies. They ask residents NOT to use 9-1-1 to report power outages. For Clark County customers report power outages directly to Clark Public Utilities at 360-992-8000. Fallen trees on private property are not an emergency unless a person is trapped or injured. For trees down across roadways in unincorporated Clark County, where much of the wind damage is occuring, report to Clark County Public Works at 360-397-2446.

6:42 p.m. - Pacific Power now reports as many as 78,000 customers without power, mostly in the southern part of the state and along the Oregon Coast.

6:31 p.m. - Highway 6 is closed due to multiple trees down across the highway, 4 miles east of Tillamook, from MP 4 - 27.

6:26 p.m.
- Multnomah Co. 911 Dispatch has issued a request to remind the public to only call 911 for emergencies. Please call your power company to report power outages. Mult. Co. 911 says its being swamped with non-emergency calls.

6:23 p.m. - PGE is reporting at least 60,000 customers without power across its coverage area. Automated power outage number is 1-800-544-1795.

6:17 p.m. - Hwy 18 at the Oregon Coast closed from MP1-20. Hwy 26 closed east of Sandy near MP 32.

6:14 p.m. - PGE is reporting at least 50,000 customers without power in its coverage area.

6:10 p.m. - ODOT spokesman Dave Thompson says ODOT is urging motorists to avoid driving tonight unless absolutely necessary due to the number of downed trees and powerlines. He says ODOT is being cautious about sending out its crews to be sure they are not also endangered.

6:05 p.m. - About 4,000 customers are without power in Clark County due to problems caused by high winds. The outages are scattered throughout much of central and northern Clark County. Customers without power can report their outage and receive updated information by calling the utility's PowerLine at 360-992-8000.

5:22 p.m. - KGW Meteorologist Matt Zaffino says lightning is possible overnight in addition to damaging wind, heavy rain, and flooding.

WIllamette Valley - peak winds from 9 pm to midnight
Cascade Range - peak winds from 10 pm to 1 am
Columbia Gorge - peak winds from 3 am to 7 am

5:17 p.m. - Hwy 18 closed east of Lincoln City, according to Dave Thomson of ODOT; and, intermittent flooding reported along Hwy 101.

5:11 p.m. - Clark Public Utilities reports about 1,000 customers are without power due to problems caused by high winds. The outages are scattered throughout central and northern Clark County. Meanwhile power has been restored to about 7000 customers in the Felida, Sara and Ridgefield areas where a tree damaged power lines. Customers without power can report their outage and receive updated information by calling the utility's PowerLine at 360-992-8000.

5:08 p.m. - Pacific Power reports 31,000 customers without power throughout its coverage area. 1-877-548-3768 is the number to call to report downed lines or power out.

4:59 p.m. - U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) is now closed due to falling trees and very hazardous conditions at Staley's Junction, milepost 45, on the east end and three miles west of Alder Creek Road at milepost 15 on the west end. The full closure will remain in place until further notice.

4:26 p.m. - High winds, stormy weather causes coastal road closures:

Closure US101, 8 miles North of Cloverdale MP 79 - 81. The highway is closed due to several trees coming down as of 4:13 pm.

Closure US26, 2 miles East of Elsie MP 22 - 15, all lanes closed due to heavy storm debris as of 4:06 pm

Closure US26, 4 miles East of Necanicum MP 13 - 21, highway is closed due to falling trees as of 3:52 pm

Closure, US101, Port Orford MP 300 due overturned semi as of 3:25 pm


4:21 p.m. - Klineline Bridge on Highway 99 across Salmon Creek in Clark County Washington will be closed as of 7 p.m. Thursday. Clark County government announced the closure this afternoon amid concern that flood waters could cause the bridge to fail. Motorists should use I-5 as the alternate route between NE 99th Street and NE 134th Street. Highway 99 will be open to local traffic only on either side of the bridge

4: 20 p.m. - The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a flood advisory for the Willamette river at Oregon City above the falls from 4 PM Thursday until 10 am Monday.

4:08 p.m. - As of 3:50 p.m., Cowlitz PUD crews are responding to power outages in Kelso and Kalama. Currently 1,200 customers are without electricity. Pacific Power is responding to outages caused by a major storm throughout its Oregon service territory. Currently the company is experiencing 30,000 customers without service. Sustained winds along the coast are currently gusting to 70 mph.

3:55 p.m. - SW Scholl's Ferry Road closed at SW Teal Blvd. in Beaverton. Motorists are urged to use SW Barrows Rd. as an alternate east/west bypass in that area.
Several large trees have fallen across the roadway and SW Scholls Ferry Road is no longer usable. It is projected that SW Scholls Ferry Road will remain closed until some time on Friday, December 15th.


3:10 p.m. - National Weather Service: blizzard warning in effect for the Central and Northern Oregon Cascades through 8:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

ODOT warns: Blowing snow and whiteout conditions in the mountains, along with power outages throughout the state, may force roads that normally would stay open to close temporarily.

Marion, Polk & Yamhill Co. Schools: Newberg - All after school and evening activities are canceled

Private Schools: Portland area - Arbor School of Arts & Sciences: Evening program postponed to Friday 11:30am.

1:45 p.m. - Neah-Kah-Nie: Elementary schools releasing at 1:30, Middle and High Schools regular time. All afternoon and evening activities canceled.

Clark Co. Schools: Ridgefield: All after school activities for December 14th,canceded due to wind warnings

1:15 p.m. - Clark Co. Schools: Green Mountain: All evening activities canceled due to potential for wood fall during high wind.

Cowlitz Co. Schools: Toutle Lake: Napavine at Toutle Lake girls basketball game has been cancelled.

12:45 p.m. - Bridgeport Village has postponed its Pet photos with Santa event until Sunday 12/17 from 12-4 p.m.

Private Colleges & Universities:
Oregon College of Oriental Med.: Due to potential severe weather conditions this afternoon, the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine will CLOSE at 4:00pm Thursday, December 14. Both the college and clinic will close at 4:00pm; no patients will be seen in the clinic after 3:30pm.

12:39 p.m. - Christmas ships are canceled for tonight due to bad weather- canceled on both the Willamette and Columbia rivers.

10:45 a.m. - Lincoln Co. Schools- 2 hour early release in Lincoln County for all schools including Eddyville Charter School and Siletz Valley Charter School.
