October 2009 ArchivesThursday October 29, 2009 Good afternoon from the First Alert Storm Center Rain has been with us all day, and most areas will see rain for the better part of the day today. We've already seen some impressive rainfall totals just in the past few hours. It'll be that way all day today. We'll get a break from the rain Thursday evening and Friday, but more rain rolls in Friday night and early Saturday. It now looks like the... Wednesday October 28, 2009 Good morning from the First Alert Storm Center It is a cold morning so far across the area. Temperatures in Portland are in the lower 40s, but west of Portland we're already in the lower to middle 30s. Patchy fog will be around again this morning too, so expect some reduced visibility at times on your way to work. High pressure is here for a day giving us dry conditions, and even a little suns... Tuesday October 27 Good morning from the First Alert Storm Center After a busy day yesterday we're off to a showery day again today. Showers, thunderstorms and more mountain snow today are all very possible. We've already seen over a foot of snow at Timberline Lodge, and we're not done yet. Today we're sitting in the cool showery section of the weather system. We'll see on and off showers all day long today, with the ch... Wow it is wet out there now. Astoria so far has seen over an inch and a quarter of new rainfall! Expect heavy rain for a few hours, until we see more showers for the afternoon. Also expect very very slow roads. morning update below: Good morning from the First Alert Storm Center, We squeezed out a beautiful day on Saturday, then saw much more cloud cover and rain on Sunday. Today we'll continu... Friday October 22, 2009 Good morning from the First Alert Storm Center Wet weather is moving in again today, with light rain this morning, and rain later today. Overall a pretty typical Fall day, and even more so a very typical Fall pattern. Today there is a weather system slowly pushing inland. This morning there isn't a whole lot to it, we have only seen light showers inland. The rain though will increase throughout t... So far so good, the forecast is right on track. The low clouds are slow to clear, we have high clouds pushing in at the coast...all of that means mostly cloudy skies. I do think we could squeeze out some sunbreaks, but not many. Also tonight we may see some light rain at the north coast. Hope your day is going well!
Good morning from th... So I say to Russ..."guess how much rainfall we saw at the airport this morning" He said "oh from midnight? How about 27 hundredths of an inch" I couldn't believe it...that's exactly how much we have seen so far at the airport! If you have any tough decisions coming up, I'd ask Russ! Anyway, the rain has all tapered off now to become much more showery. The trend for the rest of the day is to have decreasing showers, but not much s... The forecast is a tricky one today. I'm still holding with the forecast below, because it makes too much sense to change a whole lot. However, it's getting tricky. We're already seeing incoming high clouds, which is fine because all they usually do is filter the sun. Today as those clouds filter the sun, they are also cutting down the ability to burn off those low clouds. So I think we'll see limited sunshine...with Partly sunny skies! ...Not a bad morning overall. We did see some pretty heavy showers around Scappoose and Vancouver, even at the airport. Now conditions are drying out. By the way, it's "ah ha" not "the ah-ha's". The birthday fact of the day was...in 1985 "Ah-Ha"'s song "take on me" hit number one on the pop charts. I called them "the ah-ha's" Oh well! But yup, got that one wrong.
Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center It sure felt mild last night, and we're off to a mild start this morning. We're sitting in the warm sector of an incoming weather system that will eventually bring some very heavy rain. Highs today will be near 70°, but the rain bears down tonight and sticks around well into Saturday. An inch or two of rain will soak the valleys, 2-5 inches ... Thursday October 15, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center It sure was a busy weather day yesterday. We had wind, rain, even some snow and freezing rain east of the Cascades. Today things are really calming down, and we will squeeze out a much drier day. Today a weak warm front is lifting north through the area. We have seen some spotty showers over the area, but they are few and far between. Throughout th... Wednesday October 14, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center We're off to a wet start today across the area, that won't change much today. Look for wave after wave of moisture to push in today for off an on showers. Also expect breezy conditions inland, and very windy weather at the coast. The weather system pushing in today is really packing some wind at the coast, with gusts in the 45-50 mph range already... Tuesday October 13, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center Rain is pushing in this morning, and the winds are still very strong. Overall it is going to be a breezy to windy and rainy day...however a there is a chance for some rain/snow mix showers believe it or not. That incoming weather system will bring fairly windy conditions to the coast, and very windy conditions to start in the Gorge. That wind in the... October 12, 2009 Good Monday Morning from the First Alert Storm Center After a cool, breezy and sunny weekend the weather will hold steady today before big changes move in for tomorrow. It's also pretty darn cold outside so far today, with Freeze Warnings in effect for the central and southern parts of the Valley...basically from McMinnville to Eugene. Temperatures will be in the lower 30s, possibly upper 20s. Expect th... Friday October 9, 2009 Good Evening from the First Alert Storm Center The most important news today is that it's Friday! Skies stayed fairly clear overnight, so if you were up you may have been able to see the moon crash. We watched it live here, fun stuff! Those clear skies also helped our temperatures cool off overnight. I would say then expect 30s and 40s as you head outside with low cloud cover, patchy fog, and maybe some d... Thursday October 8, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center We're off to a chilly start so far this Thursday. Skies stayed clear overnight, so temperatures have dipped into the 30s and 40s. We also have some areas of patchy fog, especially at the coast. The fog will burn off and the sun will come out. The weather pattern is calm today with patchy fog the only thing to worry about. The skies will clear quickl... Since the morning update we have cleared out nicely. I've also decided that I think the phrase "light drizzle" is redundant. It's just drizzle! Either way, we had some drizzle earlier in the day, plenty of low clouds, and warmer temperatures compared to yesterday. Now we're seeing some sunshine inland, and then a lot of low cloud cover at the coast. The coast will eventually see some sunshine, but not much. We'll call it partly ... Wednesday October 7, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center What a difference from yesterday! Temperatures are ranging from 5-15 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday morning. It's all because of marine air and morning cloud cover that will slowly burn off later today. Overall not a bad weather day. A weak weather system well to our north east is moving through today. The weather system itself isn't gi... This afternoon is really turning out nicely. The sun is out, the temperatures are slowly warming up, and we can expect some great Fall weather. Over the next couple of days not much will change either. So a nice lunch out on the bricks, or anything at all outside would be a good idea! I think I'll take the dog for a bike ride later! Now down to business... Tonight and tomorrow a weak system well to the north of us will pu... Tuesday October 6, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center It's another cold day out there with temperatures all over the place in the 30s. We'll see some some patchy fog again this morning, and potentially even some frost. Bundle up then and be ready for cold as you head outside. Just like yesterday however, the sun will come out, and the temperatures will really warm up. High pressure is firmly in control ... October 5, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center Bundle up this morning because we're off to a cool start. Skies cleared last night, and because of that the temperatures have taken a big dip. We'll have lows this morning in the 30s and 40s with patchy fog. We might even get the first frost of the season. The good news is we have lots of sun on the way for the afternoon. High pressure is in control over the... Friday October 2, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center The big news of that day is that it's Friday. The weather today won't be that much different than yesterday, with sunbreaks, plenty of clouds, and maybe a few showers. The showers will be really limited, but we may see a few. This weekend the weather will cool down more, and we'll see yet another round of showers. Today we're sitting in the aftermath ... Thursday October 1st, 2009 Good Morning from the First Alert Storm Center After another cool and sometimes wet day yesterday, not much will change today. Showers are still around, and the temperatures will only warm a couple of degrees. A warm front is slowly pushing in today, giving us some light areas of rain at the coast and a few showers inland. Most of that light rain will be at the coast today, and also in northwe... |
