Afternoon sun!

3:11 PM Mon, Aug 31, 2009 |
Nick Allard

Higher pressure is in control again today, meaning plenty of afternoon sun. In fact today looks very similar to yesterday.

The high pressure will stick with us for the next few days, giving us highs today, tomorrow and Wednesday in the lower 80s after morning cloud cover. Starting Wednesday night however, we'll have some pretty big changes.

An area of low pressure offshore will slowly push our way by Thursday. Most of the moi...

Mixed weekend weather

8:31 AM Fri, Aug 28, 2009 |
Nick Allard

Friday we have a weather system just offshore slowly pushing closer to us. It has a fair amount of moisture in it, because it's grabbing some moisture from an old tropical storm well south of us. Look then for showers at the coast by the afternoon if not earlier. Then look for a chance for showers inland later this evening. Most of the rain will stay to the coast, but there will be a few showers. Highs today will drop into the mid to upper 70s...

A warm Thursday!

10:09 AM Thu, Aug 27, 2009 |
Nick Allard

It's a beautiful Thursday so far across the state, with only a little patchy fog to deal with. This afternoon we'll have nothing but sunshine with warm to hot temperatures.

High pressure is over us today, but slowly moving east. That means more sunshine and temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s. However, I mentioned that high pressure is moving east. As it does we'll make some room for a fairly wet storm system to push in tomorr...

Cool start, then sunny and warm

9:26 AM Mon, Aug 24, 2009 |
Nick Allard

We have a few areas of patchy low clouds to start off your day, but only a few and mostly at the coast. Then we'll turn partly to mostly sunny every where with nice warm temperatures.

High pressure is over us today giving us sunny skies. Temperatures today should hit the low 80s for most spots today, with upper 60s at the coast. Tonight things will start to change a little however. There is a weak weather system just offshore, that wi...

Going for a record

3:54 PM Wed, Aug 19, 2009 |
Nick Allard

Tuesday tied a 100 year old record at Astoria of 82 degrees. We didn't quite get to a record in Portland. The high yesterday was 92, and the standing record was 93. So we just barely missed it. Today however I think we have a pretty good shot to set a new record in Portland, and possibly around Salem and Eugene.

High pressure is still in control, so the sunshine is still out and obviously it is still hot. Temperatures today should top...

Heat records likely to fall

12:50 PM Tue, Aug 18, 2009 |
Nick Allard

What a day. The sun is out, and it was a very warm morning. With that in mind, get ready for another really hot day today. Temperatures should jump at least a few more degrees, and will potentially set a new temperature record. In fact it's so hot that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today, and an Excessive Heat Watch for tomorrow. The bottom line is do your best to stay cool, and watch out for those that don't have...

Here comes the heat!

12:56 PM Mon, Aug 17, 2009 |
Nick Allard

So far so good, it has been a very nice day across western Oregon. We did have some areas of morning clouds and fog at the coast, but those are gone now. Most other areas were clear to start, and will stay that way for the next few days. That sunshine will really help us warm up too, in fact warm isn't the right word...HOT is.

High pressure is building in over the Northwest, giving us sunny skies, calm conditions and warmer weather. E...

Clouds will burn off!

9:51 AM Sun, Aug 16, 2009 |

Temperatures will continue to be cool early today even though we have a thinner layer of morning clouds. Once again we think the clouds should start breaking up around the lunch hour. By later today, things begin to change as high pressure continues building into the northwest. This coming week will continue the warm up as warmer air from the south moves in. Wednesday should be the warmest day of the week with temperatures besting 95 degrees. ...

Another cool day, warmer ahead

12:14 PM Fri, Aug 14, 2009 |
Nick Allard

Today we're starting off on a cloudy note, and we have even had a few showers. The good news is, the showers are wrapping up, and the marine layer we have over us will slowly burn off. Look for temperatures to stay below normal today, but still be warmer than yesterday. Our skies will turn partly sunny by the afternoon.

Heading into the weekend we'll see mostly sunny skies after morning clouds tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the 80s...

Another heat wave next week!

3:00 PM Thu, Aug 13, 2009 |
Nick Allard

Morning clouds give way to afternoon sun on Thursday. Highs should top out in the mid and upper 70s.

Tomorrow we should see morning clouds and then afternoon sun with highs around 80. Then heading into the weekend the pattern changes just a bit. Saturday and Sunday temps will bounce into the mid and upper 80s.

Sunday the winds will start to turn more offshore. That means we'll cut off the moderating effect of the ocean, and t...

Nice start to the week

11:00 AM Mon, Aug 10, 2009 |
Nick Allard

So far so good across the area today. We have mostly clear skies, calm conditions and even some sunshine. Overall we won't have any major weather systems push through today. However, one system will push "close" to us. There is a fairly large, for this time of year at least, area of low pressure in the Gulf of Alaska. It will push most of its energy into Washington...that being said I think the north coast today will see increasing clouds and ...

Mixed weather for the weekend

11:49 AM Fri, Aug 07, 2009 |

It has been a cloudy day across the area today. We've had some drizzle at the coast, some showers in parts of the Valley, and even some rain near Troutdale and the Gorge. Most of those showers will continue to wind down as an area of low pressure in eastern Oregon keeps moving east.

The bigger story I think is the cooler temperatures. Cooler ocean has been filtering in. Yesterday our high hit 68, we'll be right near there again today ...

Cooler weather, finally!

1:52 PM Wed, Aug 05, 2009 |
Frank Mungeam

A blanket of clouds stuck around for much of Wednesday morning, helping to keep temperatures cool. Highs Wednesady will be a few degrees cooler, right around 80. But that's right on track with normal for this time of the year.

Thunderstorms will again pop up east of the Cascades in the afternoon and evening. There's a slight chance a shower or thunderstorm could drift off the Cascades into the valley Friday, but the risk is low. We al...
