July 2009 ArchivesWow, what a run of hot weather! The Dog Days of Summer are upon us as we continue to head into multiple days of temperatures at 90 degrees and above. In fact, the next 3 days we should make it to the 100s. An area of low pressure well to our south should bring us a southerly flow aloft by the end of the week which should bring us back to the 80s by the weekend. It may also bring a chance for thunderstorms to the cascades. I hope you have a way to stay cool. Jim Dono... Friday was likely to be the last 'cool' day for some time, with high's in the 80's. We're in store for another very warm day here in the valley, but not as warm as Monday. Weak southwesterly winds are bringing slightly cooler air inland from the coast. Instead of climbing into the 90s today, we'll likely top out in the upper 80s. But come Friday the heat returns! Temperatures will climb into the upper 90s by Sunday! Keely Chalmers Get ready for a very warm week ahead! The main weather theme in the Portland area should be a little cooler from Friday's high of 95. More sunny hot weather Friday. Have A Great Friday, Thursday temperatures are likely to top 90 throughout the Willamette Valley. Expect even hotter temps in the Gorge, where the Dalles could get to 99, and 98 out in Pendleton. The main area of low pressure responsible for the rain over the weekend and this morning is moving east across the state. Clouds this morning will give way to partly sunny skies by this afternoon. After a cloudy start to this Friday, we're finally seeing that sunshine. It will be anough to warm temperatures up into the mid 80s. There's a slight chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon, but most of the storm activity should stick to the Cascades. The best shot for some thunderstorm in the valley comes Sunday. Saturday looks to be mostly sunny and very warm with highs in the upper 80s. Sunday, we'll see more clouds move in and temperatures... Good Afternoon, A low pressure area centered over British Columbia the last few days is on the move today. As it slides a little to the west over the next 48 hours, it should allow for morning clouds to break up a little faster. Mostly cloudy weather can be expected again today, with some afternoon sun breaks. We could see a few sprinkles move through today, but other than that we should be dry. After keeping temperatures in the low 70s the last couple of day... Mostly cloudy weather can be expected through the next couple of days as we continue to be under a marine influence. If this were March we would probably be starting each day with some showers but since it's July- just some clouds. We could see a few sprinkles move through late today into early Wednesday but other than that we should be dry. After running temperatures into the 90s last week at times this week we will be lucky to make the 70s. ... The heat advisory has expired and there is a slight chance of showers Monday and Tuesdays. So.... You might find yourself trying to explain to out of town friends; why after 5 days of 80s and 90s, and a beautiful holiday weekend, Portland gets cloudy, cool and damp? Try this: Portland is a party. And High Pressure is the guy with the list of names behind the velvet rope keeping out the riff-raff. He's gone now and anybody can ... After topping out at 96 on Thursday, the Portland Metro area will "cool off" to around 93 degrees on Friday, with another 93 degree day likely on the 4th of July. Sunday will be the transition day, with temperatures still in the upper 80s. Then starting Monday we're looking for much more seasonable and reasonable temperatures, with daily highs next week back in the 70s. Jim Donovan The heat is on across the region starting today. A Heat Advisory goes into effect at Noon today for the Valley, Coast Range and portions of the Gorge and SW Washington. Highs will soar into the 90s for the next few days. But a sign of relief is well offshore, with a developing area of low pressure that will bring cooler highs and perhaps a chance of showers early next week. So our heat wave will be short-lived.
