My 10 cup vintage 1987 Braun coffee maker died late last week. A private service was held at the Salesky house and a tear was shed by the Braun's owner David J. Salesky, but by nobody else. The Braun will be buried at the Waste Management Facilities In Arlington, Oregon. In leiu of flowers the Braun was replaced by a 2008 Krups coffee maker.
I know it may seem a bit silly to write an obituary for a coffee maker but I'm really saddened by this. For over 20 years it sat on the counter tops of 3 apartments and 2 houses quietly and faithfully brewing my morning cup of Joe. I had that coffee maker long before I had a spouse or child. Understand, I'm up at 3:15 in the morning and for 20 years I had come to depend on that coffee maker. It would greet me every morning, its green light saying 'I'm on and working ---giving you what you need to start your day!' During winter rain and snow storms or summer heat as long as the house had power, I had fresh coffee to drink on the drive to work.
It was part of my morning routine-- a shower, shave and while brushing my teeth the smell of fresh brewed coffee would waft back to the bedroom. That off white coffee maker, I believe the exact color was ecru-- how 80s--provided a morning kick start. Now it's gone...gone and I hope to that part of heaven reserved for household appliances that serve long past warranties exparation dates and projected useful life spans. I wish it well and hope its replacement serves me half as well... Good by old friend
Dave
