It's hard to imagine anyplace hotter than Hillsboro's 108 degrees on Friday.
But we got lots of calls and emails from people who swear their 100 percent accurate thermometer in the shade said it was hotter than that at their house. And because of micro-climates...they might be right. Here are some examples:
Neil From Amboy:
I'm at 700 feet in Amboy, Washington and it's 112 degrees.
Teryl From Estacada:
According to two thermometers in Estacada today, it's currently 110 degrees. The home thermometer puts it at 109.7 - I love it!
David form Gresham sent this in:
I opened the door to get the mail and was hit with a blast of heat. I checked my thermometer on the deck and at 3:37p.m. it's 108.9 degrees in the shade!
Here's Shandy's email from Forest Grove: 107.8 -- yep, that's all. Just the temperature in the world's shortest email!
Marvin wrote in from Tigard. His subject line said: "109 degrees in Tigard!!!"
Thanks so much to those of you who told us how hot it was at your house - you helped us record history in the making.

It was 112 in Aloha. My outdoor thermometer and a digital thermometer display next to a Quiznos on TV Highway both showed 112.
We live in SE Portland, in the Lents neighborhood. We just bought this house in Dec of this year. With no AC, and not enough insulation, we are baking here! I hung blankets over the windows and closed the blinds after airing out the house all night with fans, and kept the dogs from going in and out in their usual fashion. It didn't get unbearable until late this afternoon, early evening. Our thermometer registered 104 at 1:30 pm, and later at 4 it was 108! Thanks, Pam
I'm on Mt. Scott, 100 yards up from 205 and I hit 109 today at 4:30!!!!
The local newspaper in McMinnville's web site indicated the official temperature at 104 degrees for Friday, but mitigated that by stating it only feels like 103. Right! And I can tell the difference in 1 degree! Anyway, it's not too often that I can jump into my hottub to cool off.
I am also from Estacada and the thermometers of Bank of The West and my house read 112 after 4 pm; they were both in the shade. I've contemplated moving to Alaska.
Wow....all I know is that we have our company picnic today at Oaks Park and we will probably all melt.
We live 1 mi North of Woodland, WA on Green Mountain Rd. It is 71 here right now, as it has been since I got up about 6:30 am. It's 8:35 now, and it is actually sprinkling here. It has been for about 30 minutes, and it is very light, but coming down none the less. You can actually see it just a little bit on the ground Thought you might like to know.
Thanks for your great work on the news, it's the one we watch!
Hey guy's!! We live over here in Vancouver just a miunute away from the Columbia River and our thermometer in the shade read 106!! I also contemplated several times yesturday moving to Alaska!! We tried to air the house all night, but it was still so HOT, even at 5am! I ran to about 10 stores looking for air conditioning and i did't find a single unit!
Thank you for the awsome Heat Wave coverage!!
We're located in East Vancouver at NE 39th St. & NE 162nd Ave. Our hottest point of the day was at about 4:30 p.m. when we registered 108 on a shaded thermometer. Once the sun got around to that side of the house we quit looking. Hardly a surprise that we would experience a micro-climate with a higher temp than the Vancouver official site, which I believe is Pearson Air Museum. It's a stone's throw from the Columbia River, which, given the right wind direction, would mitigate the heat somewhat. We are downslope from the Cascade foothills, quite a way from the Columbia; so it stands to reason we'd be 4 degrees warmer. Anyway, our next electric bill notwithstanding, I still think our 3-ton a/c unit is the best investment we ever made.
Our outside temp in the shade was 113 on Friday here in Mapleton
Well I am from Gresham. But I am currently serving overseas in Afghanistan with the Oregon National Guard. It has been between 100 and 110 degrees for the past month or so. Thats HOT! Take care all and thank you Oregon for all your support! Myself and the rest of the troops need it.
Currently 101.9 / Damascus 7/23/06 @ 1:42 PM
We live about 10 miles east of Astoria and the temp (in the shade) is 93.
We've got 103 in the shade in Newberg on Chehalem Mountain. That's HOT!
I am here in Beaverton (tanasbourne) it is 110!!!! As a native to oregon it it HOT!!
My thermometers consistantly show it to be much hotter here in Tualatin than what the news reports it to be. At this time 5:36....in the shade it is 109 and in the sun 119.
Thankfully...we have air conditioning!!

My thermometer registered 104 for a high in Washougal this afternoon. As a Clark County native it's way too hot.
I was in Salem today. I don't know what the temp outside was but I checked the temp in our dark blue minivan that was in direct sun all day. At 4pm it was 149 degrees inside!!! Think about that before leaving your dogs in the car.
i work night shift, and therefore, yes i sleep during the day. try sleeping on the third floor of a townhouse with no air conditioner on friday in hillsboro when it was 108. it was basically 115 in my room as i tried to sleep to go to work that night.
No matter how hot it was in your area, keep in mind it was probably 10-20 degrees hotter in Baghdad and our troops are wearing full uniforms, body armor, carrying packs, weapons, and ammo. Their lives depend on them being alert at all times as well.
