Little people, big drinks?

We're not sure why the press release just came across now, but the Washington County Sheriff's Office tells us that Matthew Roloff, the dad from TLC's "Little People, Big World" was arrested for driving under the influence last month.

Obligatory celebrity mug shot, soon to be featured on The Smoking Gun and TMZ, I'm sure:

Roloff got pulled over on West Union near Cornelius Pass just before midnight on June 19th. He reportedly refused a Breathalyzer, was cited for DUII and released.

We called the Roloff family for comment tonight, but couldn't get through to them.

The Roloffs were in the news last fall when 9-year-old Jason Jacob was injured by a pumpkin catapult.

UPDATE: Don't forget about the Roloffs' book, with the now-unfortunate title Little Family, Big Values.

Full press release from WCSO after the jump.

News Release from: Washington Co. Sheriff's Office

ON 6-19-07 MATTHEW ROLOFF WAS ARRESTED BY A WASHINGTON COUNTY DEPUTY FOR DUII (DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INTOXICANTS). HE WAS CITED AND RELEASED.

Posted: July 30th, 2007 8:28 PM

On 6-19-07 at about 11:52pm a Washington County Deputy saw a white 2005 Chevrolet van was failing to drive within its travel lane. The van was traveling westbound on NW West Union Road near NW Cornelius pass Road. These roads are in the unincorporated area of Washington County. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as 45 year-old Matthew Roloff from the Helvetia area.

Mr. Roloff allegedly failed the field sobriety test and was arrested for DUII. Mr. Roloff was transported to the Washington County Jail where he was cited for DUII, refusing the breath test, and failure to drive within the lane. Mr. Roloff was released at this time.

The son's name is Jacob. You might want to check things out first.

Quite right, Cristina. My apologies.

The sons name is Jacob not Jason leave them alone

If you want to stop drinking, call A.A. Even "celebrities" are anonymous in meetings.

I find this so called "News" article completey absurd. Why wasn't this written when the incident happened?
The Roloffs are good christian people and have a good family structure. The media is looking to "Dig" up dirt. Just before their new TV series starts this fall.
This article sounds like "Sour Grapes"...
There is more "News" to report then digging up the past.
At least we know the kids won't be out doing drugs cause of their upbringing. I wish I were brought up the way these kids are.
Hay media go "Pick on someone your own size"...And leave The Roloffs alone...

All i gotta say is "little people, BIG DRINKS!"

Everybody makes mistakes. These are good people and their dirty laundry should not be hung out to dry by the news media.

Cant you news people find anything else to report on? How about some good news now and then? Why don't you put yourself in their position and think about how you would like your personal faults and mistakes made public. I feel sorry for the Roloff's. This is really unfair.

I got a dui back in March,Its a very expensive crime that isnt worth repeating.I am learning a very big lesson in a short period of time.Diversion classes are 45 bucks a pop.once a week, for a year.It also comes with a 3000.00 dollar fine. This is not to mention the potential of causing harm or death to others or yourself while driving under the influence.Dui is something I am sure many drivers have done and not been caught.Once again its not worth it.

I really enjoy the show and admire the Roloffs as they share so much of their life and humanity with TV viewers. I am sure they understand that their celebrity exposes them to a lack of privacy. I feel certain that they will use this as a teaching tool for their family and maybe for the viewers as well. Driving under the influence is dangerous and should not be tolerated no matter who you are. By the way... I hope they got rid of that trebuchet!!!

poor guy, he does a lot of good and this is what he gets?

I read in a different article the sheriff dept. stated that no-one gets treated differently because of their status, yet somehow in the last day or two a press release was needed about this. When if it had been you or me this wouldn't be being broadcast for all the world. I feel for the guys kids, and I am so glad that he didn't hurt or kill someone. Something is fishy with this one, I swear that Oregon (born & raised here) is such a whore for publicity good or bad. Thank you KGW for adding to this 15 minutes of fame bs, and making sure that one mans screw up or not since he hasn't been proven guilty yet, will both smear his life, and the lives of his wife & kids. Quality news reporting once again.

Alcoholism is a disease characterized by relapse. However, driving under the influence is an extremely serious crime.

I believe that the Roloffs are still an amazing family and definately have values -- as they continue to make their way in a world which doesn't accomodate them and often judges them for being different.

As a fan of the show, who benefits from seeing the Roloff's make their way courageously in life, I hope their book sells well. They deserve it.

A person can hold a value dear to his/her heart, yet fail to live up to that value. It doesn't make Matt a "fraud," only a human with weaknesses and frailties like the rest of us.

I hope Matt beats any issues with alcohol and continues to be a dedicated father and husband. The Roloff's are a great family. I've learned a lot from them, mostly to keep trying and to love each other unconditionally.

Someday the alcohol companies will be reviled as the tobacco companies.

The ridiculous thing about drinking is there is no "responsible" drinking because alcohol impairs your judgment and impaired people make crappy/dangerous judgments.

Alcohol is foisted on us at every turn and is marketed to our kids. Alcohol makers & marketers are an evil lot, to be sure.

Matt needs help and I'm sure he will get it, and it's good he was taken off the road until the issue is addressed.
I wish him and his family all the best.

Let's not overlook that this is the second time he's gotten a DUI. They're a likable family, obviously love each other a lot, but there's really no excuse for getting 2 DUI's. What "values" are those to pass onto your kids? He could have killed someone or himself. And they've put themselves out there publicly so of course this is newsworthy - you've got to take the good with the bad.

What type big family values in drunk driving?

This is a nice family. I'm sure Amy and Matt and the kids are not taking this in stride. So, Matt has a problem. My heart goes out to him. Let's all remember, most of us, at one time or another have done something we're not proud of. Lets remember this is a family. Kids are involved. Let's be civil.

Matt Roloff is a great man.
His life reflects that of patients & compassion to his family & others. I think we all need to show Matt some of that same compassion in his time of need. Matt is a great role model but lets not forget that he is human & makes mistakes just like the rest of us.

why is he smiling? I wonder what Amy and his family thought!

poor dude

Please Aaron Weiss get Mr. Roloff's son's name correct.
Jacob not Jason, if Matt can not
walk normal with out crutches,
how does he do a field sobriety
test. If you as reporting this
cannot get his child's name
correct, well I have doubt's
about this story.

I have doubts about the Police
Department's ability to give
field sobriety tests,if Matt
can not walk without crutches,
also, great reporting, get names
correct please. Who ever pulled
him over hope you got your quota
for the month. Just a little help, it is Jacob not Jason.
I had serious doubts about the
area's police department from the beginning, but now they are confirmed.

Everybody makes mistakes, hopefully he'll get some help if alcohol is a problem for him.

guess he was just "a little drunk?"

I would like to see how hey are going to address this on their show and with their children. TLC took down the "Little People Big World" message board I think IMO they were getting a lot of slack and rude comments toward Mr.Roloff over his second DUI. Lets hope he finely learns a lesson and if he wants to drink, for heavens sake STAY HOME.

It's ridiculous that people are blaming the cops for this. They couldn't have known who he was when they stopped him for erratic driving. As far as the field sobriety test, there are some that don't include walking. And why would he refuse a breath test if he had nothing to fear? This is a nice man, but he blew it. You'd all be posting different comments if he had killed or injured someone while drunk driving.

My Daughter was killed by a drunk driver 9-1-91. It still feels like it was yesterday.Parents are not suppose to go first in death!! But my beautiful 23.5 yr. old Daughter was taken from me and our family, because of people like you, who make the decision to drive after drinking, kidding themselves into thinking they are "fine" to drive! You make enough off your show to call for a cab, or had your wife pick you up!
This totally breaks my heart..and certainly does not leave a good impression on your children!
SHAME ON YOU!!
I will never watch your show again as a result of this latest tryist!
Think of how blessed you are to have your family, and how mine has lost one. I have a son, and I worry every day he,and he is 37!!

Our Beloved Mayor Potter.
I agree that he should have walked out of the council meeting last night. In fact, I think he should have kept on walking. Out of Portland and then out of Oregon. What a spoiled kid. His conduct and ego are not something that will do Portland any good.
By the way, I am against the renaming of Interstate avenue. If he wants to honor Chavez, let him rename the street he lives on.
And Giusto also needs to go. What a screwup this guy is. And anyone that knew what he knew and did not come forward with the information, past mayors, past govenors, past polititions aand their associates and past newspeople should be very strongly and publiclaly censored. And kick the bum, Guisto, out of office before he steals someone elses wife. It looks like all married women in the County are free game as far as he is concerned.
