Becky at Preemptive Karma links to an article from USA Today that shows Portland is the #6 metro area in the country for volunteering.

According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, 35.8% of greater Portlanders volunteered their time last year. That puts us a hair behind Seattle, at 36.3%. Step it up this year, Portland!

As for the rest of the west coast, San Francisco is tied for #23, San Diego is just behind at #25, LA and Riverside are down below 40, and Las Vegas finishes dead last with an embarrassing 14.4% volunteer rate. (Link)
