The Columbian brings word that Clark County wants to hire private undercover contractors to bust bars that violate Washington's smoking ban.
Why can't the health department do it themselves?
The undercover contractors are needed because the county's public
health team -- two women and a man -- doesn't feel safe visiting bars
late at night to enforce the law, Cross said. (Link)
The county wants to increase penalties as well -- after a warning letter, the tavern would lose its food license, first for three days, then for two week.

I don't think bars or taverns should be forced to be non-smoking.If it's a private business it should be their choice whether they allow it or not.Customers can choose to go there or not.I can understand not smoking in public buildings, but private ones I think is unfair and the taxes that they are charging is just crazy.$6.75 a pack? and that's cheap compared to places like N.Y. .They(the government officials)say the taxes are for prevention, and health care for people suffering from illnesses due to it but are they doing anything to help people quit like offering free alternatives?.I think they just use the money to pad their over spent budgets.Any time they need(or want) more tax dollars they first thing they do is raise the so-called sin-tax.Just my putting in my two cents.Any one agree or dis-agree?.
