Advice to the 7/7/07 babies

30 years ago, 7/7/77, I was born. If you believe in numerology, luck, or slot machines, that means I'm among those who, until today, had the luckiest birthday on the planet.

If you are among those fortunate enough to be born today, 7/7/07, with one fewer seven than me, I have this advice for you:

  • Thank your parents! They had the foresight to get this process started back in November, give or take. That's excellent planning, and you wouldn't have this lucky birthday if it wasn't for them.

  • Learn to play blackjack early. It's a game that, at its best, still gives the house a minuscule advantage, and only if you play it exactly right. If you're going to take advantage of your birthday luck when you turn 21, start studying in elementary school so you don't make any stupid mistakes. Split your aces, and always double down on 11.

  • Don't play slot machines or roulette. No one's that lucky. Not even you. Powerball is an acceptable risk.

  • Others will be impressed and amazed at your birthday. They'll ask you if you have unnatural luck. Always say yes. Mention your psychic abilities too.

  • Start writing down the birthdays of all of your friends. Because you have the easiest-to-remember birthday on the planet, everyone will wish you a happy birthday. Every year. You want to be as good at returning the favor.

  • You were born in a decade where a "special" birthday came around every year. Sure, the 1/1/01 babies are in first grade, but your birthday is even more magical. Don't make fun of the 6/6/06 babies a year ahead of you in school. It's not their fault.

  • Start planning your 70th birthday now. I'm counting on you to throw me a great party on 7/7/2077 when I turn 100. Thanks in advance.
