« Vick Accepts Plea Deal | Main | They Scored How Many Times? »

Memo to Mike Vick supporters....

STOP IT ALREADY!! Is that clear enough? This case is spiraling outta control enough. We don't need your senseless wit to try to "soothe" the situation. If you want to defend him....do it on your own time! Don't bore us with this "he's being victimized" garbage! If I sound angry, you hit it on the head. This bothers me more and more each and every day that passes. It bothers me more because I have two dogs (Murphy & Oden). I won't get into them (at least right now), but the people that are defending Vick are truly 'off their rockers'. Today, it came to a climax with me.
I'm ticked off at professional athletes that are using "The Situation"--that's what they call it at Falcons headquarters--as a way to boost their support of Vick.
First off, the NAACP came out today and said that "Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL". Two words NAACP....nice timing!!! The only way Vick has a ghost of a chance at redeeming anything with the general public, is to call a press conference and let the world know how (truely) remorseful you are at these inhumane actions you were apart of.
The reason for me to blog on this topic was mainly because of Roy Jones, Jr. and Stephon Marbury who both came to Vick's defense today. Here's what Jones was quoted as saying:

"People tend to talk so hard against people. They make it such a bad thing, like dog fighting is worse than killing someone." Jones Jr added: "I'm not a dog fighter. I've never been to a dog fight. But just because they have the animals doesn't mean they are fighting the animals. Michael Vick doesn't have that kind of time to train and raise dogs... I like bulldogs and I like their mentally."

Jones Jr concluded: "They are making this so bad, but really two dogs fighting can happen in anyone's backyard or on the street. It happened in my backyard, two of my dogs fought and one died."

Also quoted in the Green Valley News, Jones Jr stated: “Fighting animals don’t necessarily get mistreated. They get treated just the way I get treated."

Hey Roy....when did you get dunked under water and drown....or when did somebody electrocute you? Please refrain from getting near any microphone or camera for the foreseeable future Roy.

Then, there's Knicks guard Stephon Marbury....who said this earlier today:

"I think we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals," the Knick point guard told Capital News 9, an Albany TV station. "You know, from what I understand, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors.

"I think it's tough that we build up Michael Vick and then we break him down."

It's ignorance at it's professional best, isn't it? My guess is this case will uncover many other former/current athletes that have been involved in such dispicable events.
This garbage wasn't the reason I got into sports....but it is what is. Luckily, I'm not making the news.....just reporting it.

Adam--you are a man after my own heart! Bravo on your comments; they are dead on! I am so sick and tired of people having to turn things into race issues instead of what they truly are--that the law was broken and lies were repeatedly told to numerous people in and out of sports and the court/legal systems. Race never had anything to do with this case, ever! Laws were broken, plain and simple and innocent creatures were viciously and cruelly fought and killed for no reason other than financial gain and a twisted mentality to think this was a "sport". Personal accountability is now a thing of the past in America as people blame their bad behavior and criminal actions on everything and anything EXCEPT where it should lie--with themselves. No one made Mr. Vick do what he did; he chose this course of action and now he must pay the price. For those who say, "it's just a dog, get a life", I say educate yourself. There is too much documentation out there to support the correlation between violence against animals and violence against people. Mr. Vick also continues to minimize his involvement in this "enterprise", claiming among other things that he never gambled on the dogs nor did he receive any winnings. Does he really think we are all that dumb? If he wasn't that involved, why was he photographed with the dogs and why was he present at test fights if he had no vested interest in the outcomes? What angers me the most, though, is that Mr. Vick has never once spoken himself to say anything. He has let his attorneys, his agent, all of his paid mouthpieces do his talking. Never once have we heard from his mouth. Some might say this is a smart move; I say that shows that the only thing he is truly sorry about is that he got caught. At least if he spoke we could hear from vocal inflections, tone, and facial expressions whether or not he was sincere. Instead he stands there, stone silent, looking like a thug, letting someone else speak for him. If he were truly innocent, he should speak up, but the plea speaks for itself. Now there are those who say that the plea means nothing, because he was railroaded by the racist establishment and his co-defendants. Rubbish! We don't know what all the US Attorney had in this case and probably never will. Co-defendants are like rats and will always jump off a sinking ship for the betterment of themselves. Mr. Vick also faced a superceeding indictment that had more severe charges in it and cut a deal because it was in his best interest to do so because he would face less jail time on the first indictment than if convicted on charges from the second. So the next time you decide to place someone on a pedestal, decide whether or not they are truly worthy. (Oh, and bother to educate yourself about the facts before you speak).

glad to hear someone speaking out on this, escpecially a sports caster. keep up the good word.
