UO Ducks baseball....catch the fever??
Okay, that felt kinda weird writing that title! Thanks to the success of OSU (and ONLY that)....the Ducks are bringing back collegiate baseball for the first time since 1981. Thanks for joining the party Pat Kilkenny. The timing couldn't be better....and more laughable. (I'll explain the "laughable" part in a moment). Actually, it's a good thing for UO and the entire state. It will bring another prominent Civil War matchup into households throughout the state. And I do feel bad for the wrestling program....but let's be honest, it's all about making money. And, the Ducks--in a few years--will see the returns on baseball MUCH MORE than they would on wrestling. Unfortunately, we live in a world where to get something, you must give up something.
When I said "laughable"....I just thought about how OSU students, alums, athletes viewed this move. I must admit...it'll be strange when the program gets underway.
I hope Oregon does well....because the state is obviously on the map.

This is a lame decision by UO.
Instead of creating a baseball team they don't have, they should promoted their club men's lacrosse team to a varsity sport. The opportunities to create a DI mens' team are rare with Title IX.
The men's lax club is a top 5 team in the nation, finishing 2nd last year and ranked #1 part of the season. (But the roster would change. Club vs. varsity takes two very separate levels of athlete to compete.) The fields and everything is already in place for lacrosse. Lacrosse is growing in Oregon, we've got a pro lacrosse team, I can't say the same about baseball.
The women's lax team is already varsity at UO, a corresponding men's team is what would put Oregon on the map and really make news. Not another baseball team.
