The Death of Vince McMahon?

By Craig Edwards

Don't believe everything you read and hear. Despite reports to the contrary, Vince McMahon, the chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment, is not really dead. In the real world, he's alive and kicking. Though on TV, it is a different matter.

For those who don't follow the world of pro wrestling, Vinnie Mac got blown up at the end of "Monday Night Raw" this week. He walked out of the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA and hopped in his limo, which immediately exploded to end a heavily hyped three hour interpromotional show that featured wrestlers from all three WWE brands (Raw, Smackdown, & ECW).

For most wrestling fans, the stunt was a cool moment, killing off the evil TV character that was one of the main catalysts for wrestling's popularity boom in the late 90's. It also had many asking "what are they going to do with this?"

Small problem though; several news agencies reported it like he had REALLY died, leaving many people confused. A couple even called our newsroom today, asking why we weren't reporting the news.

I want to clear this up for you, once and for all. VINCE McMAHON IS ALIVE. The whole thing was a stunt, taped the night before the show. Here's a statement from the Wilkes-Barre Police Department to prove it:

For verification purposes regarding those inquiring as to the alleged car bombing of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township on Monday, June 11, 2007, the incident was a staged event, prearranged with Fire Department personnel and authorized by Township Code Enforcement officials. All necessary precautions were taken during the filming of the event so as to ensure the safety and security of all persons involved in the event. Mr. McMahon was not injured during the event contrary to what is being reported on internet web sites and other media sources.

Folks, I'm going to break it down for you. About 98% of what you see on a wrestling show is just that, part of the show! Just follow it and have fun. Also, know that WWE.com is part of the show. The company has another web site for its business and real world stuff.

What's funny is that WWE has gotten in trouble for stuff in bad taste, just plain stupid, or makes you wonder why you watch their product... BUT THIS confusion is what people will be upset about... when they really didn't do anything wrong here.

Enjoy the show, just don't forget that is just a show.

will they bring him back

do u think we will ever see him on tv again

My comment is that wresting is so so another version of a soap opera. When I was watching the show and saw the limo explode. I didn't believe it. I didn't even heard it on the news. I am going to wait and see if Vince McMahon will come on the show next week very much alive.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the feedback.

We will likely see Vince McMahon on TV again down the line, but not for a while. I do think it's good idea, and will be refreshing to get his character off TV for a while, after more than a decade straight of trying to stop all the popular wrestlers from getting the title.

corporate.wwe.com is the WWE's corporate site for those of you who asked.

I think it was in bad teast for the ones really take wrestling, that take it to heart, and with them week after week.
I do take it to heart.

I agree this whole staging of the death of Vince McMahon is in poor taste. In my opinion McMahon is no more dead Than I am.

isnt there some freakin law against that?

what vince did was wrong it makes it bad for other pro wrestlers that really do pass. I think the vince should be fined for this sick stunt

It is a big show with lots of stunts. Most of it is fake non realistic like a movie. There is a lot of good acters and acteress on a show. Use to being a fan before. His just taking a break for a while.

I think that the stunt was a disgrace to the men and women that serve our country. I am serving in Iraq right now and I see my friends acctually die in vehicle explosions. What the WWE has done is disgraced all the people that wear a uniform and do die for this country. I am not impressed and I think that the show should be taken off the air so that kids that do watch it dont think that anybody can walk away from an explosion like that.

After reading over these comments, I am dismayed. If everyone knows that wrestling is television entertainment and not real-life drama, then why all the fuss? Someone suggested the WWE be fined. By who and for what? And as far as this stunt being a disgrace to military personnel - it is a television show. When cars blow up on CSI or Heroes or 24, I do not hear people calling foul. How is this any more disgraceful than the mock violence on those programs? How does it in any way disgrace our TRUE fallen heroes who have died defending our liberties? It is just television. Bad television to some. But that is one of the great things about this country. People who do not like it can change the channel. My advice: lighten up. The world is serious enough as it is.

I used to be a huge fan of wrestling when I was younger, and still today like to watch it. I find it entertaining. Through my years of watching it I have seen many staged death's and some real one's at that in the wrestling industry. I do think that Mr. Mcmahon will return, and I think that it will have something to do with the Undertaker, and some silly spirt deal. But thats just an off the wall guess. I don't know only time will tell.

I think Mr. McMahon's fake "death" was a disgrace. My children went to see Smackdown live on June 12, in Philadelphhia, they called me crying and upset that Mr. McMahon had died. They did not see the explosion because they are sent to bed before the conclusion of RAW. I assured them it was fake and part of the show and I would look it up on the internet to prove to them it was a stunt. Since when is it considered "entertainment to traumatize children.

I knew vince wasn't dead. I'm just looking for him to show up at Vengance...

I knew from the start he wasn't really dead. The whole thing is kind of tasteless though. (He should have turned "good guy" instead.) It was hard enough to tell my children when Eddie Guererro died, luckily I was the first to hear about it and not them.

And as far as children are concerned, if your children are watching the WWE and don't understand that the whole thing is entertainment ( I don't say the word "fake". These people are all atheletes, actors and acrobats who I actually admire and respect) then maybe they should not be watching it until they are mature enough to understand. It's not exactly G rated these days you know.

Vince said it himself that it's 'Sports ENTERTAINMENT' i can't understand why all the fuss regarding mcmahon's 'Death'... for me it WAS entertainment and gives him a few months to have a breather before having a 'Bobby Ewing' moment and waking from a dream lol, dont take everything so seriously! enjoy it for the show it is!

THANK YOU!
And yes, he was brought back tonight in honor of Chris Benoit who indeed was found dead along with his wife and child.

Vince McMahon is clearly alive, but I have to admit, I did second guess myself on a few things and I have known for years that many of the shows are not 100% live...usually only on Payper View they are or they are shown an hour after performed on tape.

i knew he wasnt dead but are you going to follow up on the death of Chris Benoit and his family?

This comment is written after listening to teenagers that watch WWE wrestling together on a regular basis usually on the USA Network. The faked death of Vince McMahon was in extremely poor taste in light of the deaths of one of their favorite wrestlers and his family in Atlanta, Georgia today.
Mr. McMahon's comments before the tribute to Chris Benoit was and I quote a group of teenagers, "Not funny! That is sick! What is wrong with him? Why would he fake his death? That is really messed up I won't watch anymore. What was he thinking that's just wrong!!!"
From a parent's point of view, professional wrestling is as American as apple pie. It is part of the growing up process. Obviously, McMahon gave his story line no thought demonstrating his lack of morals, and lack of regard for the athletes that regularly provide this entertainment to the public. McMahon's consequences hopefully will be what it will be in this household. When someone fakes death and then reappears on the television announcing the death of another favorite wrestler and his family with no apology to the public for his actions parental control is necessary it is time to turn to another station when professional wrestling is scheduled to air.

You know I grew up with Harley race's son justin. We went to school together and played football together. I saw first hand waht Harley went throuhg in those days. The old timeers had it a lot harder to put on a show back then. They didn't have all these people to help put on the show. They basicaly had a fist full of razor tape that they used on them selfs to make the show. These guys today are sissys compared to the yester year in wrestling

Vince McMoron is a very sick person. He faked his so called college degree, tried to fake his death (but only fooled himself) and pretends to think he can act. He is the absolute worst actor ever!! Also he uses and abuses everyone around him thinking it's good publicity. The fact is that McMoron needs to go back to his special ed classes and get very special help!!
