GETTIN HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN!
By Joe Becker
What a beautiful day in the Northwest...and I spent most of it about 7 thousand feet up on Mt. Hood!
KGW Photographer Jim Culp and I went up the Mountain to do a story with the U.S. Snowboard Team, which is training at Mt. Hood Meadows. More than 40 team members and coaches will be there through Sunday including several Olympians.
In fact, it's open to the public, so you can go up and watch.
It was a blast today. Tom Scully, Monte Day and Jim Carney all drove Jim and I up and down the Mountain on snowmobiles. Those guys have been working on the Mountain for years and know their stuff. Jim and I appreciate all thier help.
We talked with Snowboard Cross Coach Peter Foley and Half Pipe Coach Mike Jankowski. We also interviewed boarders Nate Holland and Steve Fisher. Holland is a snowboard specialist, who was in the 2006 Olympics and Won Bronze at the 07' World Championships. Steve is the Two-time X Games Gold Medalist in the Half Pipe.
They were all very nice. By the way, the story we did will air tomorrow night (Friday 5-11) during our 6pm News.
See You on the air and in the air...on the Mountain.
