Viking Quest
Every year during college football season you hear so many teams criticized for playing a weak schedule. Some schools like staying at home, playing weak teams, collecting the paychecks, and don't worry about strength of schedule. To them it's more important being bowl eligible than going on the road to play a tough team.
Not Portland State.
PSU is the type of team Division One schools on the west coast like to play. They know the vikings won't turn down the opportunity and more times than not you can count on a Tim Walsh team giving your team a good game.
I love the fact that the Vikings don't run away from challenges. It brings the progam respect it wouldn't otherwise have.
When you recruit kids, telling them you are playing New Mexico, Cal, and Oregon in the same season gives these players the opportunity to play against some of the best college players on the west coast, if not the country.
How many scouts go to a Portland State / Northern Colorado game ?
Not many.
How many will be at the Portland State / Cal game this weekend ?
A lot.
Walsh has tolled the dice many times. His win in Hawaii a few years ago was one of the biggest in school history. The win a couple weeks agao at New Mexico was probably number two.
Football programs and people don't grow unless they step outside the box.
Tim Walsh and Portland State are doing that and I applaud them for doing so.
Your comments are always weclome and yes the title of this blog was stolen from "Entourage".
