Attention Beaver Fans

So you're an Oregon State fan or alum or a big time booster. Dennis Erickson is at the University of Idaho looking around and trying to figure out what has happened to his coaching career. If he has the slightest success every Athletic Director is going to be knocking down his door.

Flash to Corvallis where boosters are getting a little antsy over the future of the Oregon State program. A drubbing at Boise State doesn't get anyone reaching for their checkbook to give the Athletic Department any money.

So here's the question Oregon State people.

Will you root against Mike Riley and the Beavers this season in the hope that AD Bob DeCarolis fires him and goes after Dennis Erickson ?

Look at how this letter to the editor from last Sunday's Oregonian begins," The dirty little secret making its way through Beaver Nation is that many Beavers fans wouldn't mind another 5-6 season it if meant the end of the (Mike) riley regime and the rebirth of another (Dennis) Erickson era."

It's a difficult proposition I know.

I like Mike Riley a lot.

I want him to have success.

Riley gave you guys a great win in the Insight Bowl against Notre Dame a couple years back.

I was there.

I've known Mike for 10 years. I covered the Beavers starting in 1996 when I worked at KMTR in Eugene. Back then no one, and I mean no one, was covering the Beavers football practices.

I was.

Erickson got you thisclose to a national title.

Will you root against your team and/or alma mater for one season thinking that maybe, just maybe, Erickson would return.

It's just a question meant to cause debate. That's all.

Now it's your turn.

Oregon State booster Al Reser, who has donated an estimated $20 million, called the current direction of coach Mike Riley's program "unacceptable." Reser is concerned, but he also made it clear he wouldn't lead a push to replace Riley, whose future is up to athletic director Bob De Carolis. De Carolis gave Riley a vote of confidence Wednesday
