What's Next

A SOURCE TELLS ME THAT THERE'S BEEN VERY LITTLE ACTIVITY LATELY ON THE SALE OF THE BLAZERS.

NOW WE KNOW WHY.

ALL THE GROUPS THAT WANT TO BUY AN N-B-A TEAM WERE LINING UP TO PURCHASE THE SONICS. NOW THAT "THAT" DEAL IS DONE THESE SAME POTENTIAL BUYERS WILL BE HEADING SOUTH TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE BLAZERS.

DON'T THINK FOR A MOMENT THAT THEIR DESIRE WILL BE TO KEEP THE TEAM IN PORTLAND. FROM WHAT I HEAR HENRY SAMEULI WANTED TO BUY THE SONICS. HE OWNS THE ANAHEIM DUCKS AND THE POND IN ANAHEIM.

IF HE BUYS THE BLAZERS GUESS WHERE HE MAY WANT TO TAKE THE TEAM. THE O-C... ORANGE COUNTY.

THE ACTION HASN'T HEATED UP ON THE COURT YET BUT OFF THE COURT THINGS COULD NOW GET VERY INTERESTING.

Przybilla's Honor

It's called "Winning the News Conference" and people who do Public Relations and Media Relations first told me of the phrase. What you want to do is control the situation whether it is good news you want to send to the public or even bad news. Show and tell people that you are in control and send them the message you want them to hear.

Last July the Blazers introduced Nate McMillan at Washington Park overlooking the city of Portland. Today they did the same with Joel Przybilla on the waterfront.

Both of these grandiose events were done to "Win the News Conference".

It's a smart PR move.

When you have good news go to the rooftops and scream. That's what the Blazers did. Some people would say it was overkill considering they were simply re-signing their own free agent. But this team hasn't had too many moments like this in the last few years and they wanted to go to downtown Portland and show off what they did.

Your comments are always welcome.

Random Observations

Adam Morrison scored 29 points in his second game of the Orlando summer league Tuesday night. He struggled in his first game, but you've got to give the guy one day to work off the rust. Meantime, Martell Webster and Brandon Roy continue to shine for the Blazers in the Vegas summer league, averaging 18 and 15 respectively. Can you image what it would have been like to watch these three together this season? I still say Morrison was the better pick, for three reasons. He can score, the fans love him, and they need a small forward, assuming Darius Miles probably won't be in a Blazers' uniform after Christmas.

The re-signing of center Joel Przybilla was a huge victory for the Blazers. But let's not get too excited. The move doesn't make Portland a better team, we had Przybilla last year. It only means they won't get worse.

People are still talking about the controversial headbutt by Zinedine Zadane, and about the way the World Cup ended on penalty kicks. Critics say a game shouldn't end, in the equivalent to a free throw shooting contest. I love the penalty kicks! After not seeing a single goal in nearly two hours of any given soccer match, its nice to see the ball meet the back of the net.

This is barely sports related, but I can't help but ask. When did Michael Jordon start shacking up with Kevin Bacon? A little weird, little weird.

Przybilla

Steve Patterson and Kevin Pritchard are like 2 guys who are red hot at a Craps table. No one should talk to them or go near them. They're on a roll. Last week's NBA Draft was very good, and with Joel Przybilla verbally agreeing to a free agent contract these guys are unstoppable.

Pritchard deserves a ton of credit for the leg work he did with Przybilla. Besides the countless phone calls he made, he flew to Milwaukee last Friday and showed up on Przybilla's door-step at 12:01 AM Saturday morning, the first day teams can talk with free agents. The sight of Kevin Pritchard setting up a pup tent on Przybilla's lawn is worth a chuckle.

Pritchard has already earned the General Manager's job. I don't why the Blazers would even fly anyone in for interviews. It's pointless. The guys who would come to Portland would have to know the job is Pritchard's.

Now if Patterson and Pritchard can trade Darius Miles and/or Zach Randolph it would be a perfect summer.
