Relishing Cooperstown

By Adam Bjaranson

Time for me to check something off my "bucket list"....Hall of Fame weekend in Cooperstown, NY.
About a decade ago, I made a pact with myself--if Rickey Henderson went into the HOF, I'd be there, on the grounds of the Clark Sportscenter to witness it.
I was born in the Bay Area, and lived there until age 10. As a devote Oakland A's fan, I idolized Rickey Henderson. I'd mimic his eve...

By Adam Bjaranson

Forget about all the exhibitions that the Portland Timbers have hosted in recent years, THIS will be their biggest yet! On July 1st, the Timbers will play host to (still) bitter rival Seattle in the 3rd round of the U.S. Open Cup at PGE Park. This, after disposing of Sonoma County Tuesday night, 3-0 down in Santa Rosa, CA.
Forward Mandjou Keita logged two goals and had an assist to lead the Timbers pas...

Give It Up For 97103!

By Adam Bjaranson

It's been a heckuva season for athletes in the "97103" zip code.
Between the high schools in Astoria and Knappa... they've brought back 4 OSAA Championships. Both AHS & KHS won state football championships in the fall. The Loggers followed it up with, what else, the OSAA 2A boys basketball title. (Note to all....Knappa has a ton of tradition in basketball. But if your reading this, you already knew ...

LumberJax To Cease Operations

The following news release came down at about 3 pm PST on Monday. I'm all about having "options" as a sports fan, but the City of Portland (and the NW in general) just didn't ever gravitate to the sport of lacrosse. Now, with the poor economy, the team is deciding to look elsewhere. Numerous calls to the Jax were not returned, so right now, this release is all we have to go on.

Beavs Shoot Lights Out vs. UTEP

Let me calm all the nervousness of the Beaver Nation.... Monday night was *NOT the last time you'll see Craig Robinson coaching OSU at Gill Coliseum. I don't have inside knowledge of this, but I feel fairly confident that Robinson is gonna see this out--- at least until his next recruiting class is in place.
More wins for the Beavs certainly help, but it can also hurt....as more schools may begin to show an interest in him.

No...

I'm Drinking the OSU Kool-Aid!

And who wouldn't right now? Tonight, the Beavs beat Stanford for the third time in four meetings this season to advance to the best-of-3 finals against Texas El-Paso. Yes, I know, it's the postseason tournament that 'really doesn't matter'. I get that. But trust me, it does matter in the eyes of everyone who bleeds black and orange. It's a complete 180 from where this program was just 11 months ago. They were all lost in translatio...

What A Rush....

Of the NCAA's first 32 games... 8 are in Portland. And 4 are already in the books! On Friday, the PSU Vikings hope to make the NW a perfect 3-for-3. That, after the Huskies and Zags won earlier today at the Rose Garden.

The vibrant atmosphere here in Portland has been incredible. "A great city to host" said a first time visitor from Chicago. Here's hoping that this is a sight of things to come. As a sportscaster, it's an ...

Despite the economy, the secondary online ticket market for sports events and concerts is booming. One research firm says there's a 12% annual growth through 2012 in the $3 billion marketplace.

But finding just the right seat to the hottest in-demand events has meant searching through dozens of ticket selling websites--until now.

FanSnap collects information from 57 online ticket sellers. The new website goes live...

Dancing in the Rose City

So, I think overall Portland got a good draw of teams for the 1st and 2nd round games this week. All Washington and Gonzaga fans love the proximity of playing close to home.
If there is one game that could potentially be a first round upset here... it's the UW-Mississippi State contest. The Bulldogs are coming in on a high... after winning the SEC Championship. It might not be the best opening round opponent... but if the Dawgs can...

PSU Vikings...One Win Away!!!

Only the Montana State Bobcats stand in the way of Portland State's second consecutive trip to the NCAA tourney. The Big Sky Championship will get underway on Wednesday at roughly 7:30 PST. And, you can see it live on ESPN2.

The Vikings weathered through a horrible performance to edge Idaho State, 61-53.
Thankfully, Andre Murray picked up alot of the slack for PSU.... as the senior pumped in a game-high 21. PSU only made 5 ...
