August 2007 Archives12 team members KGW Running Footage Check out our team slideshow.
So part of participating in Hood to Coast is covering Hood to Coast. Each year Matt Zaffino does his weather broadcasts in between his running legs. It says a lot about his conditioning. While the rest of our team took a break between our first set of legs, Matt showered and headed to the East Bank Esplanade for our 5pm and 6pm broadcasts. Below are some pictures. If you've ever wondered what the other side of your television screen l... We're 1/3 of the way there! What a morning. So blogging along the way was a little tough. Cell service is spotty through much of the Mt. Hood area. I can tell you it's been so much fun. Part of the fun is life in the van. It started so clean organized and full of "new car scent". Now it's full of "runner's scent" and "gummy feet". Clearly we're getting a little punchy. The ride is actually pretty comfortable. As a rookie I was wo... We are officially running. At 9:15 this morning KGW Running Footage started pounding pavement toward Seaside. Michelle Ruark from KGW Sales drew leg one..it's solid downhill quad busting from Timberline to Government Camp. Brad Zellick from KGW Sales is up next. I won't even tell you how he's preparing. Some things are better left unsaid on Hood to Coast. See you soon. Gotta conserve laptop battery. Before I go, we have to give a quick th... By Craig Edwards Thursday, Lindsay Lohan reached a plea deal on misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges. In lieu of jail time, a judge told Lohan she must pitch 40 innings of long relief for the Baltimore Orioles. Okay, I made that last bit up, but a day in jail and 10 days of community service (her real punishment) may be a lighter sentence right now. Wednesday night, the O's pitching staff gave up 30 runs to the T... STOP IT ALREADY!! Is that clear enough? This case is spiraling outta control enough. We don't need your senseless wit to try to "soothe" the situation. If you want to defend him....do it on your own time! Don't bore us with this "he's being victimized" garbage! If I sound angry, you hit it on the head. This bothers me more and more each and every day that passes. It bothers me more because I have two dogs (Murphy & Oden). I wo... It's done - well, almost. As first reported by the Virginian Pilot newspaper, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has accepted a plea deal to settle charges he participated in and funded a dogfighting ring in Virginia, his home state. It may take until a sentenc... Sorry for the delayed posting. This afternoon I was in Sky 8 covering a fire in Clackamas County. When I wasn't focused on the flames, the vantage point from Sky 8 gave me a great opportunity to see how beautiful this area really is. It was a such a great day for a flight. Now just one week from race day, I can't wait to see our great state leg by leg. Having only lived in Portland for two years now, there is much I haven't seen or e... It's Day Two at the AST Dew Tour over at the Rose Quarter. To see it all "up close" just really blows you away. That said, I'm glad I wasn't at X-Games XIII just two weeks ago to watch skateboarder Jake Brown. You've all seen it.....the fall from 45 feet up straight to the ramp below? Yikes...and double yikes! He cheated death indeed. Got the chance to talk to Brown today. He's in Portland....but obviously, he's not competing. ... By Craig Edwards Despite being a Northwest boy most of my life, I've called myself an Atlanta Falcons fan for nearly 18 years. I still have my 1999 NFC Championship hat, know how to do the dirty bird, and am definitely "2 Legit 2 Quit." So as a Falcons fan, I have two words for Michael Vick: Good-bye. ...Blogging From Hood to Coast(Part 2) We're just over a week a week away and I don't know about any of the other runners, but I'm starting to stress about packing. With this being my first H2C, I'm talking to everyone about often overlooked items that really make a difference during the race. Rich Kurz, our special projects producer, brought up baby wipes for a quick post run "shower". Very wise Mr. Kurz. Matt Zaffino reminded me to ... Portland is his home away from home! He's a Northwest native...now trapped in Hartford, Connecticut these days. And each weekday morning, he delights his countless listeners across the nation. None more than right here in the Rose City. Portland is where "The Herd" is listened to most. He's none other than former KGW Sports Director Colin Cowherd....who stopped by our studio on Sunday night. And what a riot we had! In fact, I wo... By Joe Becker Today was my first day back from vacation...and it was a vacation I'll never forget. It was capped by a magical night at AT & T Park in San Francisco. Yes, I was there when Barry Bonds passed Hank Aaron to become the All-time Home Run King. I was in the stands...like most of the 43-thousand plus...standing and chanting Barry's name. 5th inning, 3-2 pitch...and Homer number 756. It was a majestic shot..... Blogging From Hood To Coast (Part 1) So begins the first installment of Blogging From Hood To Coast. Starting today and continuing every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, we'll talk relay running. I'm the first to admit I am as novice as a runner as they come. That's where this blog comes in. I'm looking for veteran advice, concerns of other beginners and some encouragement that I can actually finish all three legs. I started r... By Craig Edwards It's over. Barry Bonds now stands alone on top of baseball's home run mountain. Career homer # 756 went into the right field stands at AT&T Park Tuesday night, pushing Bonds past the great Hank Aaron. To say that Bonds' quest has been controversial would be like saying the Pacific Ocean has a little bit of water in it. Though he has never tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, the cloud of suspicio... Because it's fun to think about.....Barry Lamar Bonds only needs 112 more home runs to be the REAL all-time leader. I'm finding myself entranced by this whole Barry Bonds circus. Maybe because it's my job to be "informed". The more I think about it.....the more disgusted I get. Tonight, as the Giants returned home, I found myself getting up and watching his every at bat. I feel like I'm doing myself a little disservice...because I really DON'T want Bonds to break Hank Aaron's record. I should be openly rooting against him. My first experience with hockey was attending an NHL Exhibition at Memorial Coliseum in 1991. At that time, I learned about the Winter Hawks. They were hot.....but not now! And certainly not after today's news. Dean "Scooter" Vrooman, the long-time voice of the Hawks (25 years to be exact), stepped down today. I've known Scooter for about 8 years now....and I know he's one of the hardest working guys I've ever known. A call placed ... |
