"I think we're on our way to have all kinds of fun," says Jerry Glanville, the new PSU Vikings coach..."and...one thing about the Glanvilles is that we have fun. It will be different but we will have fun."
Jerry Glanville is more than just a football coach....he is an entertaining football coach. That was pretty evident when PSU held it's News Conference to announce Glanville as it's new coach. Glanville w...

PSU needs 'all things Glanville'....

9:09 PM Sun, Feb 25, 2007 |

As a school alum, I'm feeling it's time for Portland State University to make its biggest splash in years.
That means hiring former NFL head coach, Jerry Glanville. This is the Viks one chance to steal some headlines. The 65-year-old is currently the Defensive Coordinator at Hawaii, but has been longing to get back to the mainland. President Bernstein and Interim A.D. Teri Mariani need to pay this eccentric cowboy ...

On Sunday I had brunch with Bill Russell, Dr. J. , Julius Erving and a few other NBA greats. Actually, I didn't sit with them, but I had brunch with them and about a thousand other NBA luminaries and fans.

It was the 8th annual NBA Legends of basketball brunch at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It's put on by the National Basketball Retired Players Association and they did an amazing job. NBA Commissioner David...

Who Killed Kenny??

5:22 PM Thu, Feb 15, 2007 |

Alright...cheap reference to Southpark--couldn't resist!
I digress.

Normally--and I use that word loosely here--when you are seeking to fill a vacant position at a major university....you go for the guy most qualified, right?
Well, on Valentine's Day....the Oregon Ducks made Pat Kilkenny one sweetheart of a deal. The former insurance executive is now Oregon's new Athletic Director.

Kilkenny was the darkhorse in...

Letter of Intent....It's All Coach Talk!

2:46 PM Wed, Feb 07, 2007 |

Today is the day that many kids dreams will come true--and good for them, seriously!
It's proof that their hard work has paid off....at least to the college level.
Now, the respective coaching staffs for the Ducks, Beavers, and Vikings will all wax philosophically today that "this was a great recruiting class". Mark my words! Never--and I do mean NEVER--will a coach go on camera and say they are disappointed about incoming fres...

STREAK OVER...BUT NOT IMPROVEMENT.

It's not the same as November 20, 1995...but the streak is over. Nearly, 12 years ago, the blazers streak of sellouts stopped at 814. Tuesday night against Phoenix, the Blazers two game sellout streak ended...but still there were more than 17-thousand excited fans at the Rose Garden...and I was one of them.

I'm off on Monday and Tuesday's...but I still like to go to sporting events on my night off.
I bou...

Something cooking for Super Bowl!

Super Bowl Sunday has always been one of my favorite days. I still remember watching the very first Super Bowl with my dad growing up in St. Louis...and Super Bowl 2, 3....and now here we are at number 41.

I work Super Sunday these days...but it's usually a blast. Everyone is excited...and it's not a bad job having to watch the Super Bowl. Also, we have kind of a pot luck here at Newschannel 8 on Super Sunday. Everyone brings in...

Buyback puts Allen in driver's seat

Blazers Owner Paul Allen is back in the drivers seat at the Rose Garden, or at least back in his own seat.

Since losing the arena three years ago, Allen - like most fans - had to pay to sit courtside to watch his team. The black courtside seats have been owned by PAM (Portland Arena Management) since Allen lost the arena.

Allen didn't have to be in the front row to see the decline of his te...
