Recently by Pat DoorisI spent Thursday 8/07/08 covering Oregon National Guard soldiers in the desert south of Boise, Idaho. Its amazing what those men and women are doing on a daily basis---without a single complaint---at least none that they shared with us. First, they're drilling over and over in the hot sun. I know I'm a bit of a whimp, but I was soaked in sweat just standing there in 100 degree heat, with no shade, carrying my pen and note pad.... By, Pat Dooris I covered the drowning of Mic Woodrum today. Its a heartbreaker. He'd just returned from a Boy Scout trip and was having fun along the Clackamas river with his family. His troop leader, John Kunzler told me he'd discovered Mic was not a strong swimmer during scout camp last summer. But he said Mic loved being with the guys--- and probably could not resist the pull to follow the brother he loved and admire... By Pat Dooris I've covered a fair number of political campaigns and the results of various polls. But I've never been able to get the raw questions that go into polls---until now.

Few have the incredible ending that Doris Anderson's saga promises. Many of us on searches are acutely aware that time is not a friend to the missing. The longer the search drags on---the less likely you will be found alive. >> Continue reading: A Search That Ends Incredibly
Covering the death of 18 year old Emily Egan One of the things I dread the most in my job is the phone call to the home of a murder victim. It never gets easier. I cringe at the thought. Even typing those words feels intrusive and abrupt and out of place. And yet---the call is often necessary. Most of t...
Covering the collapse of the huge wind turbine in the high, golden hills above the small town of Wasco, Oregon brought a mix of emotions Monday. Photographer Chris Rhodes and I ran into profund saddness as we interviewed the friends and former co workers of Chadd Mitchell who died Saturday afternoon. He was ins...
I love a good lightning storm and last night did not disappoint. I know some of you are from the Midwest and Thursday night in Portland was no big deal. I hear what you're saying. I used to work at a TV station in Rapid City, South Dakota, and that part of the country has sto... |
